Derby vs Nottm Forest Betting Tips and Predictions

Derby v Nottingham Forest predictions and weekend football betting tips for Saturday’s Championship fixture – kick-off time 12.30pm.

It’s another hotly contested East Midlands derby as managerless Forest visit the iPro Stadium on Saturday lunchtime. We’ve got the best bets for the match.

Derby v Nottingham Forest Predictions

This is a really odd time to have a fiercely contested local derby as Forest are managerless after they sacked Dougie Freedman last weekend whilst Derby have the inexperienced Darren Wassall in charge and have just appointed ‘Arry Redknapp as ‘Football ‘Advisor’.

Neither club is in a particularly good place at the moment although Derby could easily still make the play-offs. Forest, meanwhile, are building for next season.

Negative football was to blame for the sacking of Freedman. It was another manager dismissed by the owners and the fans are rightfully getting frustrated. There was never any danger of the Tricky Trees going down, but they were treading water in mid-table and drifting a little close to the dreaded dropzone.

There was nothing negative about Gary Gardner’s strike in midweek though that gained them a point against Hull. It was a decent point against promotion chasers and Paul Williams will look to build on that here.

Back in late 2015, Forest scored after just five minutes to shock the Rams and hold the bragging rights. Derby will be looking for revenge here. They are a shell-shocked after the miraculous comeback of Rotherham last weekend. Wassall was seething afterwards, quite rightly. No side should ever surrender a three goal lead especially not against a side threatened with relegation.

Derby could not match Rotherham’s passion and desire and that’s been a problem for them throughout the season. There have been occasions when many of their players have been operating as individuals and that was an issue for previous coach Paul Clement. It needs a strong man in charge of this club and perhaps bringing in an experienced coach like Harry Redknapp might just be a masterstroke.

It’s hard to know what to make of Forest. We tipped them for the draw in midweek, but they don’t score enough goals to be backable for my football tips at the moment. They have plenty to look forward to with the return of Assombalonga and emergence of young winger Oliver Burke, but right now, they are hard to call. They would love to derail Derby’s play-off hunt though and will be up for this one.

Derby have looked better here recently though with wins over Blackburn and Huddersfield and keeping clean sheets in both. Wassall will have spent all week tightening up the backline as they have already proved they can enough goals.

We were stung earlier in the season by the reverse clash, but I think Derby can level it up for the season here. My first Derby v Nottingham Forest prediction is for Derby to win.

Just a single goal settled it in November and it could be a similar story again here. Forest aren’t scoring goals at the moment, but have been decent enough at the back. Derby have goals in them, but will be putting all their efforts into tightening up at the back. My second Derby vs Nottingham Forest betting tip is for Under 2.5 goals. It can be backed at 4/6 with Sky Bet.

I’ve written about Derby plenty of times this season and anybody who has read my betting previews knows that I’m always complimentary about Jacob Butterfield. He’s obliged on a couple of occasions this season for us, so he’s worth a shot here for any anytime goalscorer tip on this weekend’s match. He’s always a decent price. My third Derby v Nottingham Forest betting tip is for Jacob Butterfield to score anytime. He is 11/2 with Paddy Power.
