Europa League Accumulator Tips
Lazio v Sparta Prague – Lazio win
There weren’t many away wins in the competition last week, but one of the outfits who do stand a chance in the second leg are Lazio. The Italian side managed to come away from the Czech Republic with a 1-1 draw and I think back on home soil they can press home their advantage. The Serie A side beat Atalanta here on Sunday night and have lost just twice in seven games at home. One of those was against Napoli, who are flying high in the league and I think they will have too much for their opponents. Sparta Prague have won their first two away games since the resumption of the Czech Synot Liga, but I think they’ll find Lazio too strong here and the large disparity between quality of opponents in respective divisions points to a home win
Sevilla v Basel – Sevilla win
Another home win in the competition predicted here. This was another of the match which ended all square in the first leg and Basel will be frustrated they couldn’t take advantage of the Spanish sides terrible record on the road. Sevilla are very competent here and beat a robust Villareal side 4-2 despite being down to 10 men and they will not be easy to conquer. Basel have had an excellent season, but they would have preferred to take at least a goal advantage into this game. Sevilla dominated possession and had clear cut opportunities to nick it in Switzerland, but they’ll be fairly confident they can progress to the next round here. You have to go back to the 3rd of November to find the last time that Sevilla lost at home and that was in the UEFA Champions League to Manchester City. They are going to take some shifting here.
Braga v Fenerbahce – Braga win
Braga have work to do, but in the 90 minutes I think they can win this tie. The Portuguese side find themselves a goal down from the first leg and they have to find a way of beating the Turkish side if they want to continue their participation in this competition. I think they will be victorious as they are very strong here and are unbeaten since November when they were defeated by Benfica. We’ve seen Benfica progress in the Champions League, so it’s no slight that they lost to them here. They’ve scored 23 goals in their last 9 home games and I think if they score early, we could see them put a few past their opponents. Fenerbahce’s record on the road is mixed and they won’t be relishing the trip to Portugal.
Manchester United v Liverpool – Liverpool win
Liverpool were superb at Anfield when they beat United last week. A draw here would send Jurgen Klopp’s side through, but I think they will inflict double damage on their near neighbours. United just haven’t been good enough this season and although there have been various explanations, Van Gaal’s tactics have to be investigated. They are lucky to still be in the FA Cup after a last gasp equaliser, but they could bow out of the European competition tonight. Klopp has better players at his disposal and with his side well rested this weekend, they can take advantage. Sturridge back fit and firing is always an advantage and Adam Lallana is flourishing under the German’s tutelage. I think they can win at Old Trafford.
