Football Accumulator for Tuesday Night

Crystal Palace v Bournemouth Tip

Draw

These two drew 0-0 when they met earlier in the season and I can’t see past the honours ending even once more. Palace have found a problem with scoring goals and unless Emmanuel Adebayor wants to put himself in the shop window again, that’s unlikely to change. They have bags of creativity and trickery in midfield and on the wings, but they haven’t been able to find someone who can stick it in the back of the net with regularity. Connor Wickham is suspended for this one and they shipped out Glenn Murray to tonight’s opposition. Scoring is an area that Bournemouth have recently boosted with the signings of Benik Afobe and Lewis Grabban. Afobe has already started to repay some of his fee with a couple of goals. Crystal Palace may have lost four in a row in the league, but they kept a clean sheet here against Stoke in the cup and I think this one will be keenly fought but may lack quality in the final third.

Arsenal v Southampton Tip

Arsenal to win

Yes, Arsenal got battered at St Marys on Boxing Day, but the Saints hate playing at the Emirates. They’ve conceded nine goals in their last three visits here. I don’t think they will take a battering this time as they’ve certainly tightened up defensively, keeping three consecutive clean sheets (2 home, 1 away) but I think Arsenal will edge it and go into our accumulator tip. Alexis Sanchez is back and looks like he is enjoying his football and with the injuries starting to ease, I think Arsenal can get three points here as they chase down Leicester. They lost their last game at home to Chelsea, but they had to play a large part of that with ten men. They’ve only conceded seven goals here all season, which is a pretty impressive record and with Ronald Koeman’s side only scoring 10 of their 32 goals away from home, I think they might struggle to do the double over the Gunners.

West Ham v Aston Villa Tip

West Ham to win

It’s not good for Villa as they severed their relationship with their fans further on Saturday by appearing to give up mid-match in the FA Cup tie with Man City. Remi Garde has a lot of sorting out to do if he is to stand any chance of preserving Villa’s Premier League status. Most people have already written them off for relegation and I think this will be another nail in the coffin. West Ham have lost just once in ten and they are looking increasingly hard to beat and you have to go all the way back to the 22nd of August to find the last time they lost at home (3-4 to Bournemouth). Last time here, they held Man City to a 2-2 draw and with Dmitri Payet back in the side, they always look more of a threat. Slaven Bilic has made the Hammer more exciting to watch this season and they have the 7th best home form in the league which no doubt keeps the fans on side. They should have too much for a beleaguered Villa.

Morecambe v Portsmouth Tip

Portsmouth to win

Morecambe’s Jim Bentley has really laid into his side in recent weeks calling some of their performances ‘sackable’ and it’s hard not to feel for the Scouser as he is working with small crowds and limited budgets. He has done a magnificent job so far and despite the inevitable calling for his head, he will continue to have his Shrimps exceeding expectations. But the visit of Portsmouth isn’t to be relished. Pompey have generally been better on the road this season and despite a gap opening up between them and the top two or three, Paul Cook’s side look a good bet for a play-off place at least. They have plenty of firepower with the addition of Marc McNulty and if Morecambe defend like they did against Newport and Mansfield, they could be in trouble here.

Doncaster v Walsall Tip

 Walsall to win

The honeymoon period is over for Darren Ferguson at Doncaster. His side have clearly improved and they will be in absolutely no danger of relegation this season, but their form has just dropped off slightly. They haven’t won in three home games now losing to Port Vale and Scunthorpe and drawing with Gillingham. They’re still averaging at least a goal a game, so the entertainment is provided, but defending hasn’t been their forte in recent weeks. Walsall are the visitors and they’re hoping to capitalise on defeats for Burton and Gillingham at the weekend. They have a superb away record and have picked up 10 points from a possible 12 in their last four outings on the road. They have collected 28 points on their travels this season and I think they might be travelling back from South Yorkshire with all of the points.

Braintree v Welling United Tip

Braintree to win

A short one to finish with as we are in Essex for 10th place Braintree taking on Welling United. It’s now no win in 11 and they must be preparing for life in a tier below next season. Braintree are the sort of solid midtable outfit who you can usually rely on at home. They’ve taken nine points from the last 12 here and not conceded a single goal. Manager Danny Cowley has guided his side to within 5 points of Tranmere who sit in 5th place and they have a realistic shot of the play-offs this season. Former Southend defender Mark Phillips netted for them at the weekend and he is part of a defence that has conceded just 21 goals in 27 matches this season. It’s no surprise to see Welling as the lowest scorers in the league with just 24 goals to their name and I think another defeat beckons.
