Wednesday made hard work of getting past bottom club Bolton, leaving them marooned at the foot of the table. They eventually prevailed 3-2 in a topsy-turvy encounter here with two strikes from on-loan Gary Hooper. It made it four wins in five for Ricardo Carvalhal’s side and they come into this encounter full of goal-scoring confidence.
Leeds were undone by a late goal in Suffolk. A long trip home will not have been helped by conceding a last gasp winner to Ipswich on Tuesday night and Steve Evans needs to pick his young squad up and get them fighting fit and up for this Yorkshire derby. It was their first defeat in eight, but this is a tricky game against a Sheffield Wednesday side scrapping for a play-off place.
Wednesday will have been boosted by Barry Bannan signing an extended contract at the club and they have a number of players who can cause Leeds problems. This will be Gary Hooper’s last game in South Yorkshire before returning to East Anglia and they’ll be hoping to tie him down until the end of the season. Leeds have been linked with a number of players in this window including Tom Rogic.
Chris Wood might not be rushed back for this encounter as he shakes off an injury which has kept him out for the past couple of weeks. Soulymane Doukara might get the nod after scoring with barely a minute gone on Tuesday night.
