They’ve now conceded 25 goals since that shutout and they’ve let in 10 in their last three games in the league. They face in-form Napoli, who triumphed over Torino on Wednesday night. Napoli are involved in one of the most exciting Serie A title races in year, but they’ve now kept just a single clean sheet in the last five matches. They do score plenty of goals though and have only failed to find the net three times all season. They shouldn’t find it hard to find a way past a shaky Frosinone defence.

 

Real Sociedad v Valencia

Confidence must surely be building for Gary Neville’s side as they thrashed Valencia 4-0 in the Copa Del Rey in midweek and they have a potentially winnable game away at the Basque club. Sociedad have a new coach themselves in Eusebio, but he hasn’t managed to guide any obvious improvement from his side. No win in four for the home side and they’ve conceded eight goals in that time. They’ve only failed to score four times since September and it seems scoring goals isn’t the problem, it’s keeping them out at the other end. Both sides have scored in six of the last eight matches involving Valencia in La Liga and netting four in midweek will have filled their frontline full of confidence. They also found the net twice against Real Madrid, holding them to a 2-2 draw, which was somewhat surprising, but displayed tremendous team spirit.

 

Maritimo v Morierense

There were some very high scoring matches in the midweek round of Portuguese top flight matches on Wednesday. Both of these were involved, but both will want to erase the memories fairly quickly. Maritimo came off the worse, losing 6-0 by Benfica and they now have just a single win in six. They’re only win coming against Guimaraes when they triumphed 3-4. Morierense were beaten by that very scoreline against that very team! Many expected Morierense to continue their impressive recent run and two consecutive clean sheets were positive prior to the clash, but their defence just crumbled! Guimaraes found themselves 3-1 up at half time and despite a spirited comeback, they eventually held on. Maritimo will be looking for an immediate response and they had found the net in five of their previous six, so they should be able to score here.

 

Lille v Nice

Many people will have seen the ‘almost goal’ by Hatem Ben Arfa on Monday night as his side drew 2-2 with Rennes in the Coup De France. With Ben Arfa back on form, the visitors will be hoping to recreate their early season form which saw them score for fun and play some genuinely entertaining football. They visit a much improved Lille, who had real issues scoring earlier in the campaign but before the festive break, they had collected 10 points from a possible 12. They had scored in each of those and conceded in two of them. They’ve only failed to score twice since the start of October and should be good to find a way past the Nice backline.
