Football Accumulator Tips 10th Jan

Swansea to beat Oxford – Evens

Swansea travel to Oxford looking to avoid a famous cup upset and provide themselves with a much needed confidence boost following a difficult start to the season. The Swans have won just four of 20 league games; form which sees them just one place and two points above the bottom three of the top flight. In turn they've managed just one away win in 10, losing four of their last five, again form that needs to be improved. Oxford have enjoyed a far better first half of the season, and sit firmly in contention for promotion in third place in League Two. They've been defeated just once at home in 12, and have won 13 of their 25 games to date, so will certainly fancy their chances this weekend. Despite their poor form, the fact Swansea are up against League Two opposition means they should have enough quality to seal their passage to round four, and although this could prove a tricky tie; at Evens they have to be worth taking a chance on given the gap between the sides in the football pyramid.

Tottenham to beat Leicester – 8/13

Tottenham and Leicester meet in one of the ties of the 3rd round weekend as the Premier League clubs enter the competition. Both sides are enjoying great starts to the league season and have even emerged as surprise title contenders. Spurs however could well have the edge here as focus switches to the FA Cup. The home side have lost just once at White Hart Lane this season and just twice in the league overall which sees them sit fourth in the table. They've won three of their last four and also boast the best defensive record in the division. Leicester meanwhile have seen their form dip somewhat in recent weeks, and although they remain second in the league; they have picked up just two points from their last three games, a period where they have failed to get on the scoresheet. Without influential striker Jamie Vardy and against the league's meanest defence; that's a stat that doesn't bode well prior to this one. Both sides are likely to make changes, but given the squad depth of the hosts which has been proven in the Europa League; they look the team to side with here.

Cardiff to beat Shrewsbury – 8/11

Championship side Cardiff host League One outfit Shrewsbury on Sunday, another team hoping to avoid a surprise defeat to a lower league club. The hosts are chasing the playoff spots in the second tier, and sit in ninth place; just four points off the top six. They've been defeated just six times in 25 fixtures so far, and have one of the best home records in the division with seven wins and just one loss in 13, so look a good bet here. Shrewsbury haven't been fairing as well in League One, and find themselves just a point and one place above the relegation zone having lost over half their games so far. With just one win in their last five they're certainly out of form and will be looking for a confidence boost here. However, it's hard to make a case for them here given the fact their opponents sit in the higher division and so Cardiff have to be the selection.
