Whilst many eyes turn to the first round of the FA Cup, there’s a big Midlands derby on Friday night in the Championship and we’ve got three free football betting tips.
Nottingham Forest vs Derby Predictions
The first meeting of the season takes place at the City Ground and it promises to be another closely contested, hard fought encounter between Nottingham Forest and Derby County.
Derby have really turned on the style over the past couple of weeks and as a result of their 3-0 win over Rotherham at the weekend, some betting firms have made them odds on for promotion again. Paul Clement’s side have so much firepower and Andreas Weimann got his first goal of the season against the Millers and it was closely followed by a second against QPR on Tuesday night.
If it isn’t the Austrian, they have the dependable Chris Martin, the enthusiastic Johnny Russell or the seasoned Darren Bent.
Forest haven’t won since the 15th September, considering we’re in November, which is quite some time to go without three points. They lost to Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, but they won’t be the only ones, as Ricardo Carvalhal’s side are unbeaten in nine. They lost to Preston on Tuesday and once again they only conceded a single goal, but their main issue is finding the back of the net.
It was the third time they’ve failed to score in five matches in the Championship, which is worrying for Dougie Freedman and on the two occasions when they have found the net, it’s been just the once.
All three of their wins earlier in the season came by a single goal margin, but I can’t see this one going the same way for my Championship prdictions.
Freedman says he is enjoying the challenge of managing Nottingham Forest and the fans have generally been satisfied with his tenure so far, but they could become a little twitchy if they are beaten here, especially if it’s by a couple of goals or more.
It’s hard to back against the Rams, as they’ve won eight of their last 10 in the league. The two matches they’ve drawn were both 0-0 and they were against sides with notoriously tight defences (Brighton and Blackburn).
They’ve scored 15 goals in their last six games, with the goalless draw at Blackburn featuring in that sequence. With that in mind, I can’t back against Derby, they should make it nine out of 11 against their bitter rivals.

Paul Clement’s side have also kept six clean sheets in their last nine with only Wolves, MK Dons and Huddersfield scoring against them. With the lack of goals in this Forest side, I fancy Derby will keep them out.

I’m going to go for a larger price in the goalscorer market. It’s hard to know which of their assortment of strikers will be deployed. They have Jacob Butterfield in their midfield, who I have been a fan of both at Huddersfield and Middlesbrough. He gets forward well, he also has an eye for goal and might be the man to unlock the Forest defence.
