Preston North End v Bolton Wanderers predictions and betting tips for this weekend’s Championship fixture on Saturday 31st October 2015.
It’s a North West derby on Saturday as Preston host Championship strugglers Bolton and I’ve picked three football betting tips. Neil Lennon has not been able to find any consistency or rhythm this season and as a result, the away side find themselves propping up the table.
Preston v Bolton Predictions
Preston haven’t set the league alight either, they haven’t managed a home win yet, but they have just picked up four points from away games with Charlton and Brighton. A couple of positive results for the Lilywhites who will be looking to kick on and pick up their first three points at Deepdale, but will Preston beat Bolton this weekend?
This one might not be an easy watch with both sides scrapping for the points. Bolton have the worse away form in the league whereas Preston have the second worse home form. Only Leeds United have picked up fewer points on their own patch than Preston.
Simon Grayson’s side have drawn four of their six home matches though, so it’s just a case of turning the single points into three points and with their recent upturn in form, you don’t imagine it’s too far away.
They won’t have a better chance than this, against a Bolton side who have struggled to score and found it difficult to defend. Their only point on the road came at near rivals Blackburn, a match which ended a goalless draw. Since then, they’ve shipped 10 goals in their last three away games, including conceding four to both Huddersfield and QPR.
Preston have only scored three goals in their last four games, which doesn’t bode well for a classic, but they did put three past Charlton. Preston don’t seem to have been convincing beaten by anyone this season, they have been in every game and it’s normally just a goal or two that denies them collecting anything.
They have accumulated three consecutive clean sheets and with their lack of goalscoring prowess, it looks difficult for the Trotters to get anything from this game. Gary Madine and Stephen Dobbie haven’t scored as many goals as they would have hoped and since his injury, Zach Clough hasn’t been able to recreate last season’s form.
Preston seem to score plenty of goals from midfield with Daniel Johnson and Paul Gallagher chipping in with a fair few goals. They have signed Stevie May, for all his industry, he doesn’t score enough and they may be too reliant on the players behind him to find the net.
As a result, I think it will be a low-scoring game. Neither of these sides have been scoring goals consistently and with Preston’s defensive improvements, it’s going to be a game of few chances you would imagine.
My first Preston v Bolton prediction is under 2.5 goals, the best odds for under 2.5 goals are 4/6 at Paddy Power.

I will also back Preston to get the victory in this weekend’s football tips, although they haven’t managed a win here, their three clean sheets are encouraging and they’ve only lost one of their last five games. That was to Sheffield Wednesday, who are notoriously hard to beat. Their 3-0 win away at Charlton was a huge boost and lifted them away from the drop zone and gave them a bit of breathing space.
My second Preston v Bolton betting tip is Preston win, the best odds for Preston to beat Bolton are 10/11 at Betfred.

I’m going to go for the aforementioned and in-form Paul Gallagher to grab a goal during this game for my goalscorer tip. As the Bolton defence has aptly proved this season, they struggle to close down the opposition and find it difficult to keep out threats from set pieces. Paul Gallagher is a superb free kick taker and he can find gaps in the Bolton back four in this I’m sure.
My third prediction for Preston v Bolton is Paul Gallagher for an anytime Goalscorer. It can be backed at 14/5 with 888Sport.
