It’s a vital match for City, even at this early stage of the competition. In the first Group D game they lost at home to last season’s finalists Juventus, and have lost their last two Premier League matches. Sandwiched in between the defeats to West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur was a 4-1 Carling Cup win over Sunderland, but Man City will feel under pressure to get their first European win of the season and get back to winning ways.
It won’t be easy against a revitalised Monchengladbach team. Under new manager Andre Schubert they’ve won their last two matches, scoring seven goals in the process. They lost their first five matches of the season including a 3-0 defeat to Sevilla, so like City they’ll be eager to get their first points on the board in Group D.
One man who’s played a key role in the Foals’ change of fortune is midfielder Granit Xhaka. Xhaka has scored two in two after being handed the captaincy and I’m going for him to score in this one too.

Manchester City have injury worries going into this one. Joe Hart should be back but David Silva is out along with Vincent Kompany and there are doubts over Yaya Toure too. I can see Gladbach getting on the score sheet but I still think the Blues will win for my Champions League betting tips. In Kevin De Bruyne they have a man bang in form, Fernandinho is playing well along with Raheem Sterling so City have the players who can and should cause a lot of problems.

So I’m going for an away win and I think they’ll score a few too. City will be aiming to prove people wrong who doubt their Champions League credentials and with players missing out it provides a great opportunity for the likes of Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas to show they’re worthy of a regular place in the Manchester City starting line-up. I expect Manuel Pellegrini’s men to go on the attack from the off.
