It has been a difficult start to the season for both of these North West clubs and they go head to head tonight as both will try to end their miserable current runs.

It took until 90 minutes for Bolton to score their first goal of the new campaign, Stephen Dobbie crashed in a last minute equaliser against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and cue mass hysteria amongst the Bolton faithful. It’s not been an easy start for Neil Lennon as the financial restrictions bite hard for both of these clubs.

 

Gary Bowyer has faced similar problems with his strikeforce decimated. Rudy Gestede is leading the line for Aston Villa this season, whilst the constantly linked-with-a-move-away Jordan Rhodes is out injured. Tom Cairney also left in the summer and it’s a shadow of the squad which ended last season.

 

Both sides may find themselves at the wrong end of the table come the end of the season, but it will matches like this, that will decide which of these two clubs escapes trouble.

 

It’s hard to pick these clubs apart, because neither are frequent scorers. Blackburn have scored a few goals, former Blackpool and Aston Villa striker Nathan Delfounso and new signing Fode Koita are the new front pairing, but they don’t have the consistency of a Rhodes-Gestede partnership.

 

Zac Clough is an academy graduate that gives Bolton fans hope and they’ll be looking to him to grab the majority of their goals this season.

 

I can see this one ending all square. It is hard to pick these teams apart as Blackburn aren’t as strong at Ewood Park as they were last season.

With the lack of goals coming from the Trotters, I suspect we will see a low-scoring affair. They have Gary Madine and the aforementioned Zac Clough and Stephen Dobbie, but whilst Rovers are light up front, they are fairly solid at the back. I can’t see Bolton getting too much change from Rover’s defence.
