Wales v Northern Ireland betting tips

Wales vs Northern Ireland Betting Tips and Predictions

Wales vs Northern Ireland betting tips and predictions for their international friendly as both nations prepare to make their European Championships debut this summer.

Wales host Northern Ireland at the Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday evening as both sides begin their preparations for the upcoming Euro 2016 and I have three football tips for this one.

Wales vs Northern Ireland Predictions

Both sides were impressive in their respective Euro 2016 qualification campaigns. Wales finished second in Group B behind Belgium to qualify for their first international tournament for nearly 60 years, Northern Ireland went one better and topped Group F to qualify for their first tournament since 1986. Both sides also only lost once during their roads to Euro 2016 and have built up their reputations for being very difficult to beat.

For this friendly, though, both Chris Coleman and Michael O'Neill have had their squads hit by injury. Wales are without star man Gareth Bale, who scored seven of Wales' 11 goals in qualification, as well as Aaron Ramsey, James Collins, Andy King, Paul Dummett and David Edwards. Fulham pair Jazz Richards and George Williams have been called up to the squad along with Lloyd Isgrove, David Cotterill and Andrew Crofts. Hal Robson-Kanu could miss out after picking up a leg injury on Reading duty, but Tottenham's Ben Davis and Swansea's Neil Taylor could both play some part in this.

For Northern Ireland, they are missing the experienced pair of Chris Baird and Chris Brunt. Brunt misses the Euro's altogether with a cruciate ligament injury, but O'Neill could hand debuts to Conor Washington and Michael Smith. Kyle Lafferty should start up front after scoring seven goals in qualifying.

Both Wales and Northern Ireland were excellent defensively in Euro 2016 qualifying, boasting two of the best defensive records in the campaign. The Green and White army conceded just eight goals in their 10 Group F games, whilst Wales were even better, conceding just the four. Having said that, with this being a friendly and an opportunity for fringe players to stake a claim for the Euro 2016 squads I think both sides will score here. Won't be many in it I don't think, but my first Wales vs Northern Ireland betting tip is for both teams to score. The best odds for BTTS in Wales v Northern Ireland are 6/5 with bet365.

It's difficult to see an outright winner in this one. With Wales missing some star men like Bale and Ramsey, it will be tough to see them put many past a staunch Northern Ireland defence; similarly, with Wales having such an excellent defensive record of late it's hard to see Northern Ireland outscoring them. For that reason, I'm opting for the draw for my next Wales vs Northern Ireland prediction, the best odds for the draw are 11/5 at Betfred.

For my final prediction as the teams warm up for Euro 2016, I'm going for a correct score prediction. There won't be many in this one, I think 1-1 sounds about right. Get on Wales and Northern Ireland to finish 1-1 with Bet Victor who are offering 11/2.
