Sheffield United v Preston – Sheffield United win

Sheffield United have saved their best form for cup competitions this season, but an impressive win over Swindon at the weekend has put their league form back on track. Nigel Clough’s men thrive in cup competitions and they should have enough to get past an out of sorts Preston side. The Lancashire side haven’t won for 7 games in all competitions and Simon Grayson needs to arrest the slide as soon as possible. Matt Done is an excellent signing for the Blades and he will face stiff competition from Jamal Campbell Ryce and Jamie Murphy, who add plenty of pace to the side. The home side are definitely worth backing as they are playing with plenty of confidence.

 

Fulham v Sunderland – Both Teams to Score

There always seem to be goals at Craven Cottage this season. It’s been a topsy-turvy season for the West Londoners so far typified by their recent 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest where a Ross McCormack hattrick set them on their way before having the deficit cut resulting in a nervy finish. Sunderland meanwhile have seen few goals this season, but the recent acquisition of Jermaine Defoe should help in that department. He combined well with Connor Wickham at the weekend and if the pair start in the Cup, they can cause plenty of problems for a questionable Fulham backline.

 

Barnsley v Oldham – Both Teams to Score

The only League One game of the day should end with goals for both sides. Barnsley have excellent home form and Danny Wilson is assembling an impressive young side. George Waring and Ben Pearson are decent Premier League loanees that have bolstered the ranks. Whilst Milan Lalkovic didn’t set the world alight at Walsall but was capable of flashes of brilliance, there are goals in the side and 9 of their 14 home games have resulted in over 2.5 goals. Oldham meanwhile have been involved in some high scoring games, including a 3-2 loss at Gillingham in their last away game and the 7-0 hammering at the hands of MK Dons. A 3-0 win at the weekend and Jonathon Forte back on the goals trail will have improved confidence and both teams can notch here.

 

Alfreton v Lincoln – Lincoln win

Lincoln are imperious at home, winning 5 out of the last 5, but not so hot on the road. Ben Tomlinson scored their winner against an in form Dover side at the weekend and I believe that The Imps can start carrying some of that home swagger into their away performances. Alfreton haven’t set the world alight at North Street this year and are looking to climb out of an impending relegation battle.

 

Gateshead v Wrexham – Gateshead win

And finally, in the FA Trophy, the tie is nicely poised at 1-1 from the first leg, but I believe Gateshead should be able to finish the Welsh side off for the last winning leg of tonight’s accumulator tips. Gateshead should benefit from playing at home and Wrexham have only won twice on the road in the last 10 games on their travels. Gary Mills’ side have made some decent signings and will fancy their chances in this one.
