Wolves to beat Sheffield Wednesday

On the face of it, this doesn’t seem like an obvious choice but Wolves are one of the form teams in the division. Sheffield Wednesday suffered a setback at the weekend with injuries to Liam Palmer and Will Keane. The latter has just been finding some goal scoring form and it’s a shame for the young striker. But Wolves have plenty going forward and have been scoring goals with Benik Afobe and Nouah Dicko. The last 2 away victories for Wednesday have been against bottom 2 – Blackpool and Millwall. Kenny Jackett’s men still have a faint whiff of the play offs with a couple of the teams above them faltering and they will want to get all three points here.

 

Blackburn to beat Brentford

Brentford are stuttering and they put in an exceptionally poor performance at home to Cardiff at the weekend. Despite a few disciplinary issues, the Bluebirds took all 3 points away from Griffin Park and Mark Warburton’s side will be disappointed that some of the teams around them continued winning. Blackburn is not an easy trip for many teams in the league and Jordan Rhodes seems to have found his shooting boots once again. There is speculation about his future, but it’s clear the players are responding and playing for Gary Bowyer and I would fancy them to follow up their impressive 3-1 win at Charlton with victory here.

 

Bristol City to beat Crewe

Crewe may survive another season in the league, but they don’t cope well with sides at the top as they demonstrated with a 5-1 loss at Preston at the weekend. Although Bristol City may have one eye on the JPT Final on Sunday, they surely will have too much for the Railwaymen. Even with a couple of changes, they have goals in the side and Crewe’s defence is powderpuff when it comes to the divisions stronger sides. They are decent at home, but they shipped 4 at Rochdale and 2 at Barnsley and don’t cope well on their travels.

 

Sheffield United to beat Walsall

Sheffield United are a superb away side, they are regularly better on their travels than on their own turf, whilst Walsall are poor at the Banks’ stadium. The Saddlers may also have one eye on the final on Sunday and put their on that particular match and their first appearance at Wembley. Sheffield United haven’t won in their last 4, but they need to maintain their playoff place with so many teams chasing them. They did beat Rochdale at Spotland, who are an excellent home team and if they put in a similar performance, they should come away with 3 points.

 

Northampton to beat Carlisle

Northampton have been flying of late and are the division’s form team. They are up to 10th after a poor patch in the middle of the season where injuries took their toll. They beat Tranmere 1-0 at the weekend and have gained 3 points in 4 of their last 5 matches. Chris Wilder has his side playing superbly and they have recently beaten Portsmouth and ended Shrewsbury’s unbeaten home run. Carlisle are poor by comparison and although the loan signing of Jason Kennedy and Paul Corry should give them more bit and attacking prowess, it might not be enough to beat an in form Northampton side.
