Today’s Football Accumulator Tip:
Norwich to beat Sheffield Wednesday
Norwich had to grind out a result against Brighton on Friday, but they have been able to do this under Alex Neil. The Scot has made quite an impression since taking over the reins at Carrow Road and Norwich are very much in the Promotion picture. Sheffield Wednesday have little to play for and I’m not for one minute suggesting they will roll over here, but Norwich may just want it a little more. A very mixed bag of form for the Owls contrasting with 7 home wins in their last 10 for Norwich suggests a win for the East Anglian side.
Barnsley to beat Colchester
Lee Johnson may only be a nipper in managerial terms, but he appears to know what he is doing. He improved Oldham and since taking over at Barnsley, he hasn’t put a foot wrong. They have only lost once in their last 10 games, which is no mean feat considering they’ve faced Preston and Bristol City in that run. They have drawn their last 3 games, but I can’t see Colchester winning. This game may be staged at the Western Homes Community Stadium, but Tony Humes’ side haven’t been consistent at home this season. They beat an out of sorts Port Vale to boost their survival credentials on Friday, but I can’t see the getting the better of Barnsley.
Fleetwood to beat Yeovil
Fleetwood are another team on the up. They gained a very creditable draw against Preston last week with a late stunner from David Ball and beat Gillingham on their own patch. They are only 4 points off the play offs, but it looks a difficult ask with Chesterfield playing well in 6th spot. Graham Alexander can just ask his team to keep playing and they couldn’t have requested an easier game than Yeovil. The Somerset men have lost their last 5 games and squandered a 2 goal lead at home to Chesterfield on Friday. The Fleetwood defence, marshalled by Mark Roberts and Nathan Pond won’t give them that much rope and it should be a win for the Lancashire side.
Rochdale to beat Port Vale
Another League One selection here and it’s Rochdale’s home form that persuades me to throw them in as a selection. Rochdale’s play-off hopes are very much alive, unfortunately their away form has let them down this season. At Spotland, they have been superb and have won their last 4 consecutive games, albeit against lower opposition. Port Vale lost at home to Colchester on Friday and haven’t done much winning of late. They are safe in mid-table, but have lost 6 of their last 10 games and shouldn’t worry Keith Hill’s men.
Northampton to beat Cambridge
Anybody who follows my tips, knows that I often pick Northampton as they have been the form team in the second half of the season. They only drew 2-2 against Wimbledon on Friday, but did come from 2 down. The Cobblers have plenty of firepower and James Gray seems like an astute purchase from Accrington. Cambridge have really gone off the boil since playing Man Utd in the cup and their season has petered out somewhat as a result. Northampton should win this one.
