Southend v Peterborough Predictions
Sky Sports start the weekend with a visit to Roots Hall on Saturday lunchtime. Southend have started life in League One with perfect symmetry. They have drawn, lost, drawn, lost and then drew again on Monday night. They’ve picked up 3 points from their opening 5 games which Phil Brown may be disappointed with, but this is their best chance yet of 3 points.
Peterborough have struggled for consistency as well, they are just 2 places above their hosts and without the goals and guile of Marcus Maddison, they would be significantly lower. They have a few talented players but Dave Robertson hasn’t been able to weave together a winning run of any sort.
They aren’t the force of old and they are missing a prolific striker from their starting line-up. They picked up a creditable last minute draw with unbeaten Gillingham last weekend, but will need to start picking up 3 points if they are to avoid a relegation dogfight.
It says it all that the 1st 4 players in the goalscoring betting are all Southend players. Joe Gormley or Connor Washington may end up being the striker that Posh are looking for, but for now, they’ll need to find goals from elsewhere.
Drawing with Coventry on Monday night was a decent result for Southend and they were leading at half time. They couldn’t hold on, but they put in a creditable result away from home and I believe they can build on that here.
My first Southend v Peterborough prediction is a Southend win at odds of 13/10 with Coral.
The aforementioned 2-2 draw with Coventry was the first game of the season which has ended with three goals or more. Before then, they had drawn 0-0 and 1-1 and lost 1-0 and 2-0. They generally kept things tight in League Two last season. Their backline is solid, although they’ve recruited Glen Rea from Brighton to slot in alongside Adam Barrett replacing Cian Bolger. I think they can keep Peterborough out and win by a goal or two.
My second Southend v Peterborough betting tip is for under 2.5 goals to be scored at odds of 17/20 with Bet365.

Noel Hunt scored on Monday night and he still has plenty of quality at this level. Injuries and a lack of opportunities prevented him continuing his career in the Championship, but he will be a useful asset to Southend as the season continues. His knowhow and experience will be key to the younger members of the squad and I think he can add to his tally and score twice in a week.
My third weekend football betting tip for Southend v Peterborough is Noel Hunt anytime goalscorer at 7/4 with Betfred.
