It's been all change for the Yorkshire side over the summer, the former Everton man David Weir takes over the hotseat and has overhauled a squad which has fallen below expectations over the past couple of years. The Scotsman may be inexperienced in the management game, but there have been some positive noises coming out of the camp over the past fortnight.

Notts County have seen little change over the summer, Chris Kiwomya has made some decent signings whilst waving goodbye to the talents of Alan Judge and Jeff Hughes. 

Both sides have made decent additions, the Magpies have signed the talented, but often injured Danny Haynes, the impressive Mustapha Dumbuya and Coventry's David Bell also arrives in Nottinghamshire.

Lyle Taylor is a goal scorer in Scotland, but has a bit to prove at this level, whilst Stephen McGinn and England Under 20 captain Connor Coady look decent additions. The latter has arrived on a six month loan from Liverpool. 

I expect the match to be a tight and possibly turgid affair as both sides get to grips with the beginning of a new season. Both matches last season between the teams ended 1-1 and season openers on a Friday night have typically been settled by a single goal. Mark Hudson netted in the 95th last season against Huddersfield to get Cardiff off to a winning start whilst the year before, it was Gary Taylor Fletcher whose stunning strike at Hull gave the seasiders an ideal start to the season. 

Statistics would suggest that 4/6 with Skybet for under 2.5 goals in this match would be a sensible bet. 

It may not please the neutral who has been waiting since May for the first domestic football action, but the opening game is often cagey and I think under 2.5 would be a sensible investment. 

I would also be happy to take the 2/1 with Stan James for Fabian Brandy to score anytime. He is an attack minded player and scored plenty of goals for Walsall at this level last season. He also runs at defences and hence wins a lot of penalties for his side. I'd prefer to back him than Lyle Taylor who is shorter, but will probably be still adapting to playing at this level and the often goal shy Chris Porter. 

The final bet should be for Sheff United to win by a single goal which is 11/4 at Ladbrokes. I can't see either side running away with his one, but the home advantage should be enough for Sheff United to seal victory, but we could be waiting until the second half for any goalmouth action. 11/4 is tremendous value and should be snapped up.
