Russia v Slovakia predictions and betting tips for their Euro 2016 Group B game taking place on Wednesday 15th June, kick-off time 2:00pm.
The second round of Group B matches start on Wednesday when Russia take on Slovakia at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy and I have picked out the best three betting tips in my preview.
Russia v Slovakia Predictions
Russia were one lucky side after rescuing a point with an injury time equaliser against England on Saturday. England were easily the better side and should’ve had the game wrapped up long before Vasili Berezutski’s looping header equalled the scores. Before that, Russia had barely threatened Joe Hart’s goal, it was only their back to the wall defending coupled with England’s poor finishing that stopped the game becoming a rout. Still, they’ve gained confidence in the fact that they snatched a point despite a woeful performance, and a win here will put them in a great position to qualify to the Round of 16 stage.
Slovakia took on Wales in their first Group B game and came away empty handed after goals from Gareth Bale and Hal Robson-Kanu secured a 2-1 victory for Chris Coleman’s men. Wales probably deserved the three points, though Slovakia did have dangerous spells of their own. Star man Marek Hamsik had one cleared off the line and substitute Adam Nemec hit the post after fellow sub Ondrej Duda had levelled the scores, but they couldn’t match the endeavour in midfield that Wales showed, particularly Joe Allen, and that defeat means this Russia clash is pretty much a must win for Jan Kovak and his men.

Kovak may choose to start Duda, he offered much more to the Slovakian attack than Michal Duris and his goal may have sealed his place in the starting eleven. Vladimir Weiss and Robert Mak should continue on either side of midfield.
Russia boss Leonard Slutsky has no new injury problems to contend with and could name an unchanged line up with Artem Dzyuba continuing up front.
Despite Slovakia’s loss in their first game, I think they have enough quality to get a win here. The Russian defence showed its frailties against England, particularly against the pace of Raheem Sterling (who despite getting slated by a lot of England fans, I thought he had a decent game), and the pace of Weiss could cause Russia similar problems. Hamsik and Mak also showed their qualities in the Wales match so for my Euro 2016 betting tips this is a Slovakia win. Having said that, I think they’ll concede, goalkeeper Matus Kovacik didn’t have the most convincing of games against Wales and defensively they looked poor at times. My first Russia vs Slovakia prediction is Slovakia to win and both teams to score, the best odds are with bet365 at 9/2.

Whatever the result, I think they’ll be a few goals in this one. Slovakia have to go for this, even a draw would leave them having to rely on other results come the final game against England, particularly if England beat Wales on Thursday, so I can see them going all out for this one. If they score like I expect, Russia will have to come and attack too, leaving spaces for Slovakia to exploit. If Russia get the first goal Slovakia will have to throw caution to the wind. My final betting tip is for Slovakia captain Martin Skrtel to get a yellow card. The refereeing in this tournament on the whole has been quite lenient, but Skrtel was lucky not to see red against Wales but did pick up a booking towards the end. He’s a walking yellow card is Skrtel, and in a game of this magnitude I can see him coming out with a few rash challenges.
