QPR welcome Leeds to Loftus Road for their first home game of the new Championship season. Our match prediction show that these two sides are hard to separate.
Garry Monk has arrived at Leeds United and will be looking to cement his place in the hot seat. They’ve made a few eye catching transfers and the West Yorkshire side will be eyeing a spot in the play-offs. They’re on their travels here as they head to West London.
QPR v Leeds Preview
QPR
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink should provide more continuity this season at Loftus Road. He’s had time to get his feet under the table and get his methods across. They haven’t been too active in the transfer market with just a small number of additions – Jake Bidwell and Joel Lynch amongst them. Jordan Cousins has looked lively for Charlton in the past and young midfielder makes the move across the capital.
Cousins won two player of the year awards at his former club and despite only being 22, he’s played over 100 times in this division. He’s aiming high this season and has described this summer’s training as ‘gruelling’. JFH has been working on the fitness of his side and they should be ready to go from the off here.
JFH has tried to recruit a younger, hungrier side for this campaign. They were used to having the likes of Joey Barton, Clint Hill, Rob Green and Karl Henry. Although the latter is still on the books, they’ve had a large turnover in staff and they’ve got a youthful look about them.
Matt Phillips is the only significant departure, he signed for West Brom, but they still have the likes of Jay Emmanuel Thomas, Tjarron Chery and Ben Gladwin.
Connor Washington will be looking to add more goals to his game this season after struggling to find the net following his transfer from Peterborough. Sebastian Polter and Jamie Mackie are other options up top.
It was a mixed season for the R’s with a decent home form, but a few limp away performances. They were unbeaten in their last three home matches of last season and six of the last seven with only a 2-3 defeat from promoted Middlesbrough a blot on their copybook. They beat Leeds 1-0 in November last year when they visited West London.
They’ll be hoping to be solid here again in front of their own fans. The crowd are close to the pitch and can make the atmosphere intimidating for the away side.

Leeds United
Garry Monk is the latest man in charge and he is tasked with guiding Leeds to a play-off spot. Cellino is still the man at the top, so quite frankly anything could happen! But, Monk is a good man, with a huge amount of respect in the game and good contacts.
He’s signed Rob Green, who faces his former club whilst Kyle Bartley arrives to shore up the backline. They suffered from individual errors at the back last season but with Scott Wootton departed, they should be a little more secure.
Hadi Sacko adds some width, Pablo Hernandez will be unpredictable whilst Matt Grimes has experience of this league with Blackburn last season. Kemar Roofe is arguably the most exciting signing though with the former Oxford man relishing the step up. He had a tremendous season in 2015-16 and scored against many big club in various competitions.
Marcus Antonsson completes the transfer business. He scored plenty of goals in Scandanavia, but can he repeat the feat on these shores?
Monk has declared that he still wants to bring more players in with another defender high on his list. Charlie Taylor has handed in a transfer request, but Monk says he’s trained as normal. Liam Bridcutt has been linked with the club again. The midfielder is no stranger to the club after spending time on loan with Leeds last season.
Surprisingly Joleon Lescott is one of the names linked, but it’s just speculation at this point.
It was a real mixed bag last season in terms of away form. They won just one of their last five on the road and ended the season with back to back 1-1 draws.
QPR v Leeds Predictions
This match is hard to call. It’s going to be close with both sides looking well drilled ahead of the new campaign. QPR were always tough to break down at home last season whilst Leeds offer a real threat going forward. My QPR vs Leeds prediction is for QPR and Leeds to end all square.

Leeds still look a little short at the back with just Bartley, Cooper and Bamba as centre backs. The latter continues with his captaincy, but is prone to an error or two. They offer plenty going forward though and I would suggest they will find a way past QPR here which leads me onto my second QPR vs Leeds betting tip and I’m backing both teams to score.

After singing his praises, I have to back Kemar Roofe to open his account here for my anytime goalscorer bet on the match. I think he will relish the step up and give the QPR backline trouble throughout the 90 minutes. He’s my goalscorer prediction.
