Preston vs Blackpool Prediction and Free Betting Tips

We’ve barely drawn breath from the first weekend of the football league but The Capital One Cup arrives hot on its heels with the televised match Preston v Blackpool tonight.

It’s also a quick turnaround for the two Lancashire teams, as the M55 Derby is moved forward a day for television purposes.

Preston held League One favourites Wolves to a 0-0 draw on Saturday and Simon Grayson suggested he make some changes for this encounter. Don’t expect either side to field 11 reserves though, as local pride is at stake and the teams haven’t met for three and half years prior to this.

Paul Ince declared himself very pleased with the Seasider’s result against Doncaster, however many Donny fans felt the result flattered the Tangerines. He may give Michael Chopra and Liverpool loanee Jack Robinson the chance to impress.

The match itself should be a cagey and nervous affair. Neither side will want to concede an early goal and end up chasing the game.

A bet of 0-0 at half time looks a decent suggestion at 2/1 (0-0 Half Time 2/1 Bet365) with perhaps a few second half substitutions making the difference.

Steve Davies scored on his debut for Blackpool at the weekend and the former Bristol City and Derby striker looked a thorn in the side of Doncaster’s defence. He looks a good bet at 5/2 with Betfred to score anytime. (Steve Davies to score anytime 5/2 Betfred)

His namesake Kevin has made a career of using his elbows and being a physical colossus causing numerous problems for weaker defenders. A small number of Wolves suggested the Lilywhites were robust and physical in their game on Saturday and Davies could be the first incumbent of a yellow card if the referee is a little fussy.

For this reason I would suggest Preston will pick up the first booking (Preston to get the first booking  Evens William Hill)

I think the match will spring to life in the second half, with both teams having to wait over three and a half years for the bragging rights, it may be a tight and cagey first half.

It should be a decent game and Blackpool will also be trying to break their hoodoo of having not won in front of the Sky cameras since May 2012 when they beat Birmingham in the Play Offs.
