Newcastle vs Norwich predictions and betting tips for this midweek Championship fixture – our tipster us betting on an exciting match but the spoils could be shared.
The Wednesday evening offering from the Championship looks a tasty encounter between two of the relegated sides as Norwich face the long trip north to face Newcastle. We’ve got the three best football betting tips for the match at St James’ Park.
Newcastle have now faced back to back matches against sides who dropped out of the Premier League and after picking up a point against Villa, they’ll be hoping to go one better at home against Norwich. Rafa Benitez’s side look significantly better than the team who opened the season with 2 straight defeats, but there is still work to do and a few inconsistencies to iron out. After thumping QPR 6-0, it was closely followed by a limp 2-0 defeat here to Wolves and the fans aren’t sure which Newcastle is going to turn up. Plenty to sing about for the Canaries as they sit top of the table coming into this one. Four straight wins since the International Break have sent them to the summit with 20 points from the opening 9 games. Alex Neil’s side still look a striker short, but they’ve netted enough goals with 16 scored so far. Away form was a concern until the 2-1 victory against Nottingham Forest, but they will be confident coming into this one.
Newcastle vs Norwich Predictions
It’s hard to make a convincing case for either side to easily win this. It’s going to be tight and there is likely to be no more than a single goal difference between these teams. Newcastle have won two, lost two here at home, although the wins were against decent sides (Reading, Brighton) whilst Norwich have collected 7 points from a possible 12 on the road. Honours even looks to be the bet for my first Newcastle vs Norwich prediction in this one.

Both Teams to Score Tips
Norwich have seen over 2.5 goals land in five consecutive games and they look to continue that trend here. With 16 scored and 10 conceded, they’ve been involved in some entertaining games. Newcastle could only find the single goal against Aston Villa, but it was an open game which could have gone either way. Two of their four games here have featured three or more goals. Each side are likely to find a way through here and get us a winning Newcastle vs Norwich betting tip on the BTTS market.

Anytime Goalscorer Prediction
With Norwich matches, it’s often better to look for a goalscorer at larger odds as they find a fair few goals from midfield. Jacob Murphy is likely to start ahead of his brother Josh and should be confident after his fine strike against Burton. Jonny Howson is also tempting at around 5/1, but I’ll stick with Murphy for my final Championship betting tip in this one.
Jacob Murphy anytime goalscorer – 9/2 with Paddy Power: BET NOW.
Newcastle vs Norwich Team News
It’s often a bit of a lottery with Rafa’s team selection. He isn’t short of quality or depth. He definitely can’t call upon Rob Elliott, Rolando Aarons or Massadio Haidara who are all definitely out. Vurnon Anita is suspended, but will return at the weekend. DeAndre Yedlin impressed against Villa, but picked up a knock and may have to miss out here.
Norwich have few injury worries in contrast to the start of the month. Alex Tettey might not be fit for this. Jacob Murphy is likely to start ahead of his brother whilst the likes of Alex Pritchard and Nelson Oliveira will be pushing for starts.
Head to Head Stats
There have been some entertaining affairs recently between these sides. Who could forget the 6-2 Newcastle win when they last met here. The Magpies ran riot, but Norwich have improved a lot defensively since then and barring an emergency, Sebastian Bassong is likely to remain on the bench. Norwich won 3-2 at Carrow Road back in April. Newcastle have won 5 of the last 6 here against Norwich, with the other ending all square.
Newcastle vs Norwich Betting Odds
At home, Newcastle are favourites around 11/10 for the victory on Wednesday night. Norwich can be backed a big price of 14/5 with the draw (our selection) at around 5/2. Dwight Gayle remains favourite in the goalscorer market, but he hasn’t netted for a couple of games now. In the Correct Score market, a 1-1 draw is the favourite at around 6/1, with the 1-0 Newcastle win also fancied.
