MK Dons were comprehensively battered in midweek in the Capital One Cup by Southampton, but that wasn’t surprising considering that manager Karl Robinson said ‘I don’t care about the visit of Southampton’ and put all his concentration towards this fixture.

Obviously, a very different situation here, but being battered 6-0 can’t do the confidence of the team any good whatsoever. It was a changed line-up, but there are one or two players who will remain in the line-up.

 

Derby were already out of the competition, so they had the benefit of a break in midweek and will be looking to carry on their improved form. They drew 0-0 against Burnley on Monday, which is entirely respectable considering Burnley’s recent form. Sean Dyche has made his side difficult to break down and beat, so the Rams cannot be too dismayed with the final score.

 

The Rams have an impressive strikeforce and should have more firepower than the majority of sides in this league, but it just hasn’t clicked yet. At some point, someone is going to be beaten by four or five goals.

 

Paul Clement has eased the pressure on himself with recent upturn in form, but they haven’t been beaten often, they just need to turn draws into wins.

 

Goalscoring has been a problem for both of these sides, eight games in and they’ve both only netted seven times. Derby have conceded considerably fewer goals and that’s why they lie in 11th, nine places above the Dons.

 

Dons are coming off the back of four defeats and Robinson will need to turn around results quickly if his side are to avoid an instant relegation back to League One.

 

I’ve no doubt that Derby will win this fixture, MK Dons are lacking in confidence and this could be the perfect chance for Derby to climb a few places in the table.

I think the chronic lack of goals in both of these sides is a major problem and it could be difficult for the Dons to get past Derby. So for my next football tip tonight it’s hard to see both sides scoring here.
