Middlesbrough vs Hull betting tips and predictions for this Friday night Championship fixture and the best odds for our tipsters three bets.
Hull failed to collect maximum points again on Tuesday as they drew with manager-less Nottingham Forest. Middlesbrough do have a manager, but only just, they’ll be hoping to put their own miserable run behind them. We’ve got the best bets.
Middlesbrough v Hull Predictions
Neither of these clubs appear to want the automatic promotion spot in the Championship. Middlesbrough have virtually imploded over the last seven days and have lost three out of the last four. Hull have won just once in six and scored just three goals.
This is a massive game! With Brighton winning in midweek and moving up to 2nd, these two sides can’t afford to fall behind and a draw would no use to either club.
Aitor Karanka is back at the helm after a sorry few days for the Spaniard and for Middlesbrough. Danny Murphy described Karanka as ‘throwing his toys out of the pram’ on the radio this week, but the toys are back in and he’s ready to focus on guiding Middlesbrough to the Premier League. Whoever the disruptive influences are (and there’s been various theories circulating around the internet) they’re still at the club and it remains to be seen whether their egos can be negated and managed between now and the end of the season.
They still have a squad capable of winning promotion and with the money that Steve Gibson has spent, financially they need to get out of the Championship.
Hull were looking the best bet for a return to the Premier League a couple of months ago, but Burnley have surpassed them. The Tigers have lacked their usual consistency of late and they’ve lost their scoring touch. Steve Bruce will look to rectify that this week as he bids to improve on five goals in eight games.
Middlesbrough have been undone by teams who are scrapping for their lives at the bottom of the table and there is plenty resting on this match too. They’ve collected seven points from their last nine home games though and that should give them confidence going into this.
Hull City fans voiced their frustrations in midweek in the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest and perhaps they will play with fewer nerves away from home. As we predicted here on thatsgoal.com, it’s never easy playing against sides who have just sacked their manager and it took a wonder goal from Gary Gardner to get past them.
Much has been made of Jordan Rhodes and the fact he hasn’t hit the ground running. But, the former Huddersfield man hasn’t been given a chance and many Boro fans would relish the chance to see him playing up front in a 4-4-2 formation during this game. That’s unlikely though as Karanka prefers to play a lone striker and make use of his wingers. He may also opt for a more defensive formation to stifle any Hull threat as he can’t afford to lose this match.
As much as a point will be no use to either side, I think this match will be a 4th draw in five for Hull. Both sides are not playing well and both will be desperate not to lose this. My first Middlesbrough v Hull prediction is for Draw.
What are the best odds for Middlesbrough v Hull to be a draw? It’s 11/5 with Paddy Power.

With nerves jangling for both sides, I’m predicting a low scoring affair here for my next betting tip. With Hull’s lack of goals and Middlesbrough’s lack of confidence, I think one or two goals will be the maximum haul here. My second Middlesbrough v Hull prediction is for Under 2.5 goals. It can be backed at 4/9 with Coral.
Coral sign-up offer: bet £5 get £20 free.
With neither team scoring freely, it’s hard to pick a first goalscorer tip. Mo Diame does have a penchant for an away goal and has scored five on the road this season, including a goal in their last away win at Ipswich. My third Middlesbrough v Hull betting tip is for Mo Diame to score anytime. It can be backed at 5/1 with Stan James.
