Middlesbrough v QPR Preview

Middlesbrough sit fourth in the table, they have been playing well, but their achilles heel often appears to be beating teams around them. They lost to Reading and Hull and surprisingly at Cardiff. Just one defeat here at the Riverside, that was a shock 1-0 loss to Bristol City.

Their visitors are QPR, who have been back in the news after they re-appointed Neil Warnock to see them through until at least Christmas. Chris Ramsey’s number was up after a string of poor performances and two 1-0 away losses to Derby and Brentford in their recent fixtures were the final straw for owner Tony Fernandes.

The R’s still have plenty of talent, particularly in the attacking department with Premier League scorer Charlie Austin in and out of the team, Matt Phillips providing the ammunition and the inconsistent, but occasionally brilliant Jay Emmanuel Thomas in their starting line-up.

It’ll be interesting to see which approach Warnock takes, they haven’t been able to defend all season, their 0-0 draw against Preston is one of just four clean sheets secured all season.

Stewart Downing says he is finally finding his feet after an ‘up and down’ start to his season at Middlesbrough after returning from West Ham. He is becoming a potent force and could still make a splash in the Premier League if Boro were to secure promotion.

They will be desperate to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat at the KC Stadium and I think this is the game in which they can do it in my football predictions for this weekend.

QPR haven’t scored in four of their last five matches in the league and that is something they need to sort out. Trouble is, they are coming up against one of the league’s best defences. Middlesbrough have only conceded two goals here and it was Brentford on September 15th who last found the net here. QPR are going to struggle to get past a tough and resilient Boro defence.

My first Middlesbrough v QPR prediction is for both teams not to score, the best odds for this first football tip are 20/23 with Coral.

Looking at the Middlesbrough form this season, they have won all but two games in the Championship at the Riverside and I think they can add another one to their list here. Neil Warnock is going to take time to put across his changes and he will have had a number of players away on International duty this week. QPR’s last away win came on the 29th August against an out-of-form Huddersfield and I don’t think they are good enough to come away with three points here.

My second Middlesbrough v QPR betting tip is for Middlesbrough to win. The best odds for Boro to beat QPR are 7/10 at Sky Bet.

Bet £25 on Boro before kick-off at SKY BET > if they win get £42.50 > win or lose get a £10 free in-play bet.

The aforementioned Stewart Downing seems to be relishing being back on Teesside and I think he can give a ropey QPR defence the run-around. He’s also hungry for goal, he notched the winner against Rotherham and also scored in their away win at Wolves.

For a goalscorer tip my Middlesbrough v QPR prediction is Stewart Downing to score anytime. The best odds for Downing to score against QPR are 41/10 with 888Sport.

Open a new 888SPORT account here > bet £10 on your first bet > get TREBLE the odds for that bet e.g. 12/1 for Downing to score anytime.
