Football predictions and Middlesbrough v Leeds betting tips for the Sunday lunchtime kick off in the Championship from our football tipster who has picked out his three best bets.
It’s the closest thing that Middlesbrough have to a local derby as they host Leeds at the Riverside. Both these sides should be relatively happy with the starts they’ve made to the season. Despite their 1-0 defeat here to Bristol City, Aitor Karanka’s side have been convincing in their victories so far and have also booked themselves a trip to Old Trafford in the Capital One Cup.
Middlesbrough v Leeds Predictions
The only issue is that Boro have too many players and it’s difficult to keep them all happy. Adam Reach looks set to move out on loan, with Preston a possible destination and there has been little action for Yann Wildschut and Adam Forshaw this season so far.
Leeds have quietly, but effectively gone about their business in the Championship so far. They were labelled as the draw specialists in the early part of the season, having failed to turn one point into three, but they have been solid under Uwe Rosler and they won on the road at MK Dons last weekend.
The Whites also beat Derby at the IPRO stadium and got a creditable draw with Sheffield Wednesday, the only blot being a 1-0 defeat to Ipswich, a side who will be up there this season.
It’s set to be an interesting encounter with Leeds having the best of these meetings of late. They won 1-0 in both of the meetings last campaign. The Teessiders haven’t tasted victory against this opposition since February 2013 and they’ll be looking to avenge that here. Billy Sharp scored a last minute winner last season after Boro had peppered the Leeds goal with chances, but weren’t able to convert. They seem to have rectified that problem this season by signing Christian Stuani and David Nugent and keeping Kike in reserve. So far, they’ve shown no signs of profligacy.
Leeds have a goal threat themselves in the shape of kiwi Chris Wood, who is starting to pay back some of the fee they shelled out for his services. Alex Mowatt, Charlie Taylor & Stuart Dallas are also a danger to the usually watertight Middlesbrough defence.
I think Middlesbrough will finally get the better of their near-ish neighbours for my football betting tips on the match. They will be backed by a decent crowd who will be up for this game and all of whom will be looking forward to a trip to Old Trafford next month.
Boro have been clinical recently and although Leeds are a side improving, I fancy them to get the job done.

Both recent meetings have ended 1-0 to Leeds and the season before last, there was a goalless draw played out. When these sides meet, it’s often tight and there’s plenty riding on it. I would predict that we won’t be seeing as many goals as Boro usually produce against lesser opponents. The West Yorkshire club have been fairly solid recently, conceding no more than a goal a game and Middlesbrough statistically have the best defence in the division.
