Liverpool vs Augsburg Predictions

 

The first leg ended 0-0, and it was as dull as the scoreline suggests. Liverpool had the better of the chances but it was a poor performance and the old analogy of rather watching paint dry couldn't have been more true.  Still, it was a result both sides wouldn't have been too disheartened by although if Augsburg score an away goal here it will make things more difficult for Jurgen Klopp and his men to progress.

 

Liverpool have been the most frustrating side to bet on this season.  They lose when you expect them to win, win when you expect them to lose, yes they've cost me money and I'm very bitter…still, I reckon Liverpool should win this pretty comfortably and head safely into the last 16. They'll be without Adam Lallana, Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren and Danny Ings is still a few weeks away although he has stepped up his rehabilitation following his long term knee injury.

 

Augsburg won their first game of the year at the weekend beating Hannover 1-0 in the Bundesliga to ease their relegation worries slightly. They're in decent form in this competition too, particularly away where they've won their last two against Partizan and AZ Alkmar. Raul Bobadilla, who has scored six goals in the Europa League this season won’t be in the Augsburg starting XI against Liverpool, and Augsburg are also without Daniel Baier, Raphael Framberger and Jan Callsen-Bracker.

 

Liverpool have suffered with injuries this season but now they have their first choice attack all fit in Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firminho and Daniel Sturridge. Since Sturridge has returned from injury he's given the Anfield club a focal point up top and he's a clinical finisher. All three are starting to link up well together but I think it's Sturridge who will cause the damage here.

I've said this a few times this season, but this should be a comfortable Liverpool victory (or I'm never betting on them again). In all seriousness, it should be an easy win, and with a tough League Cup Final coming up on Sunday, players will be looking to impress to make the starting 11 against Man City at Wembley. This competition also holds the best chance for Champions League football next season for Klopp's men with the winners of the competition getting a minimum of a qualifying place next season so it's not a game they'll take lightly.
