Liverpool vs Stoke predictions and Premier League betting tips for this weekend’s fixture on Sunday 10th April, kicking-off at 4pm.
It’s 9th against 8th this Sunday as Stoke City travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool. The game gets underway at 4pm and here are our match predictions and betting tips.
Liverpool v Stoke City Preview
Liverpool
Liverpool head into the match knowing that their chances of a top four finish have been all but extinguished after only taking only one point from their last two games. Although Jurgen Klopp’s side do have some games in hand over a lot of the sides above them, the chances of all those teams dropping points and Liverpool ending the season flawlessly are both equally unlikely. Their best chance of Champions League qualification now lies with winning the Europa League, and following their excellent 1-1 draw away at Borussia Dortmund in midweek, they will have done those chances no harm whatsoever.
However, The Reds are beginning to show signs of improvement in the league under Klopp, and if you ignore the anomaly that was the second half against Southampton a fortnight ago, they are arguably playing their best football of the season so far. Although striker Daniel Sturridge still looks a yard of the pace following his lengthy injury layoff, a lot of the other members of the squad have really stepped up to the plate in recent weeks, and last weekend’s 1-1 draw against title chasing showed Liverpool are still capable of matching the best in the league on their day.
Stoke City
Opponents Stoke head to Merseyside a place and two points above their hosts, albeit having played two games more. The Potters are in some pretty decent form themselves and have only lost once in their last seven games. However, they did manage to throw away a two goal lead at home to Swansea last weekend and ended up drawing the match 2-2. Similarly, to Liverpool, Mark Hughes’ side will have to produce a near perfect finish and also hope teams around them drop points if they are to have a shot at a European placing.
Nevertheless, Hughes deserves a lot of credit for the way he has transformed his side over the last couple of years. Stoke no longer play the horrendous long ball defensive game as they did under Tony Pulis, and in Xherdan Shaqiri, Marco Arnautovic and Bojan, have one of the most creative and flamboyant attacks in the Premier League.
Liverpool v Stoke Predictions
Heading into Sunday’s clash and the bookies have Liverpool as clear favourites at a best price of 8/13. Stoke are heavy underdogs at 21/4, with the draw on offer at 16/5.
This match certainly isn’t the easiest one to call as both sides are in reasonable form. However, the game does fall between two crucial Europa League ties for Liverpool, and The Reds are rarely at the races following exploits in Europe. Nevertheless, Stoke have a really poor league record at Anfield over the last few years and I fancy the hosts to have too much for the visitors on the day.
With this in mind, have a punt on Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 16/5 with William Hill for my first Liverpool v Stoke prediction and over 2.5 goals at 21/20 with the same bookmaker. Liverpool’s last three and Stoke’s last four matches have all seen a BTTS outcome and five of those seven have seen over 2.5 goals.
Moving over to the goalscoring market for my last Liverpool v Stoke prediction and Daniel Sturridge was left out of the first eleven against Dortmund on Thursday, and should be set to start the game against Stoke on Sunday instead. Despite not quite looking 100% yet, Sturridge is still averaging a goal every other game for Liverpool this year and is worth backing at a decent price of 4/1 with Paddy Power to score the first of the match.
