Leeds v Huddersfield Preview

Leeds

It’s always a decent match when Leeds face Huddersfield, but the hosts are in no mood to entertain, they are determined to take all three points. They need them.

Garry Monk’s side sit just outside the relegation zone. It’s still early days of course, but the former Swansea head coach is looking upwards. His side didn’t gel as he expected at the beginning of the campaign, but they’ve shown signs of improvement recently including a vital win over Sheffield Wednesday.

That victory was rumoured to have saved Monk’s job, which is a ridiculous position to be in at this stage of the season, but that’s Leeds United!

Stuart Dallas has this week said that they are determined to exact revenge on the Terriers who embarrassed them in the 4-1 defeat back in March this year. The trouble is, Huddersfield have improved since then. This is a tough ask for Leeds United.

Leeds are always expected to beat their local rivals, but all eyes will on Huddersfield this time to see if they can continue their good start to the season.

There have been positives for Leeds United, Marcus Antonsson has looked sharp and shaped as though he could bag a few goals this season. Liam Cooper and Kyle Bartley have forged an understanding at the back and the furore over Charlie Taylor’s transfer request has all died down.

Leeds are rarely underdogs in these matches, but that’s the case here. They beat Sheffield Wednesday comfortable priced at around 4/1 earlier in the season though so they fancy their chances. The home side have also won four of the last five clashes between these sides.

Sol Bamba’s exit may have been unexpected, but the big centre back always had a mistake in him and Leeds shouldn’t miss him too much.

Eunan O’Kane signed on deadline day and could make his first start for his new club here.

Huddersfield

There isn’t much that hasn’t already been said about Huddersfield this season. They sit top of the table, somewhat unexpectedly after 5 games and have taken 13 points from a possible 15.

David Wagner hinted at better things to come last season, but his side lacked consistency. They have found their rhythm this time around though and they are going to take some beating.

He has said that he isn’t paying any attention to the table and his side are only looking ahead to the forthcoming game. It’s a tactic employed to keep the player’s minds on the job in hand and avoid getting carried away.

Terriers fans were cautiously optimistic before the season began, but not many would have imagined it could be going as well as it currently appears to be.

As mentioned, they beat Leeds 4-1 last time the teams met and they will be looking to maintain the bragging right in this West Yorkshire clash. The record of these matches is fairly even overall with Huddersfield slightly shading it.

They did most of their business pre-season adding plenty of new faces to their squad and making sure they had the right blend ahead of the season. They smashed their transfer budget in the process.

Most of the talk has been about the future of striker Nakhi Wells, the Bermudan was rumoured to be off throughout August, but he remains at the club.

Rajiv Van La Parra has made a decent start to the season, scoring the winner against his former club Wolves two weeks ago. He only lasted 45 minutes against Leeds last season and is looking to make a telling contribution here.

Many of Huddersfield’s International players have been away this week, but there don’t appear to be any new injury worries.

Leeds v Huddersfield Predictions

I think the away side are worth siding with on the Draw No Bet market here. They aren’t going to be beaten by many sides this season and I’m not sure whether Leeds possess enough craft and guile to see off their local rivals. Huddersfield have been going great guns this season and Wagner will have them tactically set up for this one so my first Leeds vs Huddersfield prediction is Huddersfield on the draw no bet market at odds of 5/6 with Betfair.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals

This clash rarely disappoints and the last five meetings have all gone over 2.5 goals. It should go the same way again. Both of these sides have goals in them and so the best bet for this match is for three or more goals to be scored and that’s my second football tip. The best odds are 11/10 at William Hill.

Anytime Goalscorer

Rajiv van La Parra got the crucial goal against Wolves and he seems to be flourishing under Wagner’s coaching. He is getting further forward and looks a danger. I think he can make the difference and complete our Leeds vs Huddersfield betting tips with this 18/5 (888sport) anytime goalscorer.
