The second weekend Championship game is a war of the roses as Leeds take on relegated Burnley at lunchtime. Sean Dyche’s side were a credit to the Premier League during their one season stint, but they are back in the Championship and thrown straight into action at Elland Road.

Leeds’ season was marred by off the field instability and a number of baffling decisions as well as copious management changes. Neil Redfearn gave them some stability, but it is Uwe Rosler in the hot seat now and it seems a decent appointment. Many believe that he would have kept Wigan up despite the woeful dip in form they were experiencing when the axe fell on the German. The former Man City man clearly has decent pedigree and should be able to galvanise a Leeds side who have been underachieving for quite some time now. He has an excellent array of young talent at his disposal and has bought well with Chris Wood, Tom Adeyemi and Stuart Dallas joining him in West Yorkshire.

 

Burnley meanwhile have sold defender Jason Shackell and striker Danny Ings has remained in the Premier League with Liverpool but they’ve made three excellent additions to their squad in the shape of Jelle Vosse, Matt Lowton and Tendayi Darikwa. The latter is direct and adds plenty of flair to a very efficient midfield.

 

For my weekend football tips on this match I feel as though both these sides will be up there come the end of the season so this game will be close as they will be hard to separate.

 

Leeds v Burnley Result Prediction:

It will be the first home game of the season and with Burnley feeling their way back into the Championship, I fancy the men in white to just edge this game. The Draw No Bet price on Leeds is still backable and I would take this.

There are two new additions to the Leeds squad who could grab a goal in the opening game and adhere themselves to the crowd in the process. Striker Chris Wood is potent at this level and winger Stuart Dallas has a knack of popping up in the right place at the right time scoring eight goals for Brentford last season. I will side with the former to get off the mark on his debut as he is prolific. They paid a hefty fee for him and he needs to show them a return.

Despite the sale of Danny Ings, Burnley still have plenty of goals in them, especially at Championship level. Jelle Vossen proved he could find the back of the net last season whilst on loan at Middlesbrough. Lukas Jutkiewicz, another ex Teessider, is also handy, plus the addition of Chris Long adds another goal threat. There’s also Marvin Sordell & Sam Vokes, so plenty of prowess up front.
