Ipswich vs Norwich Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Ipswich v Norwich betting tips for the East Anglian derby on Sunday afternoon including three best football tips for the fiercely contested match-up.

These two sides are no strangers and with Norwich back at this level, it’s the first of two humdingers this season. Can Norwich maintain their excellent start to the season?

Ipswich v Norwich Betting Preview

Ipswich

It’s been the very definitely of a mixed start for Mick McCarthy’s side with 1 win, a draw and a defeat from the opening three games of the season. It’s hard to know what to make of the Suffolk side this season. They should be finishing in the top half, but they have one of the smallest squads in the league and with the hectic schedule ahead, injuries could kick in.

Grant Ward made the perfect start to his Tractor Boy’s career with a hat-trick as they battled past Barnsley on the opening day of the season. Their away form is still a little hit and miss but the 0-0 draw with Wolves on Tuesday was a step in the right direction. They felt a little hard done to after having a perfectly reasonable looking goal chalked off in the first half.

Mick McCarthy was fuming about the decision which would have earned his side a vital three points on the road. The honest Yorkshireman is never shy when offering his opinion and he described the call as a ‘shambles’. Most of last year’s side remains in place barring Ryan Fraser whose loan spell ended. He was a bright spot and they are perhaps missing his creativity in midfield.

They hit four in their last home game against Barnsley and a similar haul here would light up Portman Road and surely give Ipswich three points. It’s 7 years since Ipswich have beaten Norwich in the league and they don’t want that barren run to extend even further. It’s good to see young Teddy Bishop in the side after his nightmare season last campaign missing the majority of it through injury.

Norwich

The Canaries are unbeaten so far. They have proven solid at the back and had plenty to offer coming forward. Alex Neil has not hidden his desire to sign two more strikers before the end of the transfer window. Although the majority of the goals are coming from midfield currently.

They lacked a striker in the Premier League and the same issue seems to be dogging them this campaign. Cameron Jerome will poach a few goals, but they need a 20 goals a season man. They missed out on Ross McCormack and their pursuit of Britt Assombalonga isn’t going anywhere fast.

They’ve conceded just a single goal in three games and that record is already suggesting they will be promotion contenders. But with just 1 goal in their last 2 games, it’s obvious which area they need to strengthen.

They may have to be patient on Sunday though as McCarthy will organise his side to resist the Norwich attacks and it has the potential to be a frustrating afternoon for the men in yellow and green. Alex Neil said he wanted more from Sergei Canos, whose place could be up for grabs if Jacob Murphy regains full fitness in time for the derby. Graham Dorrans is another injury concern for the visitors and the midfielder looks set to miss out once again.

There is a relaxed mood in the camp ahead of this one and the pressure is off the Canaries following their decent start to the season. But three points and continued bragging rights are a must.

Ipswich v Norwich Predictions

Match Prediction

Poor old Ipswich are looking for their first victory in seven years over their bitter rivals. I do think Norwich will be tough to beat though and Alex Neil’s side are my preferred choice.

Norwich win – 5/4 with Betfred: BET HERE.

Both Teams to Score?

Both sides kept clean sheets in midweek and I think a single goal could win it. Ipswich will be hard to break down, but they seem to be missing the necessary firepower at the moment so my second Ipswich vs Norwich prediction is both teams to score, no.

Anytime Goalscorer Prediction

Cameron Jerome is the favourite in the market, but I’d rather take a midfielder for my Ipswich vs Norwich tip on the anytime goalscorer market. The Canaries have scored plenty of their goals from distance and Wes Hoolahan could be the man to unlock the Ipswich defence.

Wes Hoolahan – 4/1 Paddy Power: BET HERE.
