Fulham v Middlesbrough Predictions
This is a ground which holds bad memories for Middlesbrough as their automatic promotion campaign was derailed here just last season with a 4-3 loss. Luckily they are facing the Cottagers much earlier in the season this time around and you wouldn’t fancy a repeat of the same scoreline.
The Teessiders put their recent decline behind them with a victory against Cardiff in midweek. It looked like the same old story when they fell behind to a Fabio goal, but they bounced back in style and Aitor Karanka will be pleased to see Gaston Ramirez get his goal in a Boro shirt.
With Hull playing on Friday night, there could be more daylight between them and the teams below and Middlesbrough cannot afford to miss out on automatic promotion. With Burnley looking so strong and Derby recapturing their form after a post-Christmas slump, they cannot afford to be complacent.
What of Fulham? Well, they won’t go down. They’re far too good to slip into League One, but inconsistency and poor defending have plagued them all season. From blowing away your local rivals inside 40 minutes to limply losing away at struggling Blackburn, it’s been a season of unpredictability for Slavisa Jokanovic’s side.
The new boss hasn’t been there long and he will be able to put his stamp on things in the summer, but he will be doing everything he can to keep hold of hotshots Moussa Dembele, Ross McCormack and Tom Cairney. Fulham are one of the top scorers in the league and if they could keep goals out, they would be vying for a spot in the top six.
Ross McCormack is a player who has been coveted by Middlesbrough for quite some time, but he’s remained in London and he will be chomping at the bit to show them what they’re missing. Karanka has once again lavished the Scottish striker with praise in his press-conference and he knows it won’t be an easy task for his defence.
This match ended 0-0 at the Riverside earlier in the season, but I can’t see that being the case today. Middlesbrough have prided themselves on having a tight defence all season, but it’s now just a single clean sheet in six. That was against Leeds.
George Friend and Ben Gibson will be available for selection for this match after completing comebacks from injury and suspension but Daniel Ayala is still a huge loss for Middlesbrough. They have a capable stand-in in the shape of 18-year-old Dael Fry, but they miss the steady presence of Ayala and his goalscoring threat from set pieces.
Fulham have won just two home games since the start of November and they’ve been convincing victories over Charlton and Rotherham, both of whom are battling relegation. Middlesbrough have lost just two of their last nine away games, once at leaders Hull and the other at Bristol City, a side who have strangely taken six points from them.
After getting back to winning ways, I think the confidence is back and the return of Gibson and Friend brings more experience to the back four. I think they’ll take all three points for my who will win between Fulham and Middlesbrough prediction.

Fulham have kept just a single clean sheet since these sides last met in October. That shutout came against a very poor Charlton side. They are likely to concede here. Middlesbrough haven’t been as strong in defence as earlier in the season, but suspension and injuries haven’t helped matters. I think Fulham can find a way through. With 51 goals this season and Ross McCormack likely to net against a side who have previously pursued him, I fancy both teams to score here.
My second Fulham v Middlesbrough prediction is for Both Teams to Score? Yes. It can be backed at 10/11 with William Hill.

After talking him up, we must McCormack for our anytime goalscorer tip. The former Cardiff and Leeds man netted three times in the 4-3 victory last season and also scored against Middlesbrough the season before (when at Leeds). He’s scored 16 times this season, eight of the goals have come here.
The third Fulham v Middlesbrough prediction is for Ross McCormack to score anytime. The best odds for McCormack to score anytime this weekend are 28/11 with 888Sport.
