Tuesday’s Accumulator Tips:
Birmingham to beat Millwall
Brum have significantly improved under Gary Rowett and any lingering relegation fears have now abated. They’ve also been helped by a number of teams at the bottom of the table who have been unable to put a run of results together. Their opponents today are one of them. At home to the ten men of Huddersfield, many people would have expected them to take all 3 points, but they threw it away and limply lost 3-1. Holloway doesn’t know his best 11 and if his best 11 does include Stefan Maierhofer, then the club has serious problems. Birmingham have drawn 4 in a row, but they are extremely hard to hard and have the pace to the finishing to hurt Millwall.
Barnsley to beat Fleetwood
I’ve been impressed by Barnsley’s home form this season, they have one of the best records on their own patch in the division. They completed back to back wins over Port Vale and Oldham last week and now they face Fleetwood. The Lancashire side have done well to establish themselves in the division, although they have an impressive squad. A frontline of Stephen Dobbie and Jamie Proctor should really provide more goals than it does, but they’ve been hard to beat at home. Danny Wilson has put together a good young squad and Connor Hourihane is one of the best midfielders in the division. The Tykes should continue their exceptional home run.
Crewe to beat Yeovil
Steve Davis’ side have shown great strides in recent weeks and continued their upward momentum in the table with a cracking 3-2 win over Colchester. That was away, this is at home against a team who are lower in the table. Yeovil beat Crawley at the weekend, but they are better at home and they should find this a little more difficult. Gozie Ugwu has proved to be a decent addition, but the man who signed him Gary Johnson is no longer there. Nicky Ajose has made a huge difference to Crewe and their young squad should be brimming with confidence ahead of this one.
Southend to beat Cheltenham
The one week I layed Cheltenham this season, they went and won. It was their only victory back on the 3rd January and they have been on a wretched run of results since Paul Buckle took over. They exceeded expectations at the start of the season under Mark Yates, before he was dismissed and it’s hard to see them getting anything at Roots Hall. They have some young Liverpool loanees: Jack Dunn, Kevin Stewart and Lloyd Jones and will be hoping new signing Wes Burns can add to his goal at the weekend, but Southend held Shrewsbury to a draw at the New Meadow and that is a decent result they can build upon.
Luton to beat York
And, finally a bit of an obvious one, but York have been woeful in recent week and basically handed Dagenham 3 points at the weekend by not bothering to mark Jamie Cureton. The veteran striker scored 2 goals without reply. Luton could only get a point against Oxford, but they should be able to pick up 3 points here. They are quick going forward and very solid at the back whilst York have shown little goal threat of late and Russ Wilcox has a lot of work to do as they slipped into the bottom 2 at the weekend.
