Football Accumulator Tips This Week
Middlesbrough v Reading – Middlesbrough to win
A short one to begin with at the Riverside. Middlesbrough have now won four in a row and it’s their third home match in a row. They suddenly look back to their defensive best and have kept two consecutive clean sheets. Reading have little to play for and weren’t brilliant against Birmingham at the weekend. Brian McDermott might use the remaining games to plot for next season. The Royals have lost three of their last four away matches in the Championship with their only victory coming over now-relegated Bolton. They only beat the Trotters by a single goal and it was a 90th minute strike. With so many attacking options, Middlesbrough could get a couple here as long as the fatigue of three matches in seven days doesn’t kick in.
Odds for Middlesbrough to beat Reading – 4/6 with William Hill.
Man City v PSG – Man City to win
PSG are missing a few key players here and with Blaise Matuidi absent, they will have a patched up feel to their side. Marco Verratti may come back, but there’s a question over whether he is 100% fit after his injury lay-off. Manchester City beat West Brom here at the weekend and they’re pretty strong at the Etihad. PSG have only won three of their last six matches in Ligue 1 and although they have won the league at a canter, the fact they’ve been conceding goals must surely be a concern for Laurent Blanc. Kevin De Bruyne scored in the first leg and he could again be a thorn in the PSG side throughout the 90 minutes. Manuel Pellegrini will be determined to progress here before his departure and I think they can book their place in the next round.
Odds for Man City to beat PSG – 17/10 with William Hill.
Gillingham v Walsall – Gillingham to win
Gillingham have become very hard to beat. They are looking to cement their play-off place here and they are up against a side they could be meeting again in May. Walsall have lost their last two away matches at Oldham and Walsall. They created limited opportunities against the Latics on Saturday and they will hope to do better at the Priestfield. Gillingham were lucky to come away from Brammall Lane with a point, but they defended well and it was their third clean sheet in a row. They’ve only conceded one goal in six games and although the goals have dried up, Bradley Dack should return for this crucial tie and the talented midfielder could make the difference in favour the home side.
Odds for Gillingham to beat Walsall – 8/5 with William Hill.
Torquay v Altrincham – Torquay to win
Two sides in danger of relegation from the National League. Torquay have given themselves of survival though as they have won three of their last six. They suffered a disappointing loss to Tranmere at the weekend but the Wirrall side have the 3rd best form in the league and have been putting together a decent run of late. The home side have beaten Chester and Southport here recently and should see of Altrincham. It’s no win in five for the visitors and just three goals scored in that time. Their only points on the road have come against strugglers Kidderminster and Welling United. Torquay should have enough to see off Altrincham and give themselves a real boost of staying in the 5th tier.
Odds for Torquay to beat Altrincham – 11/10 with William Hill.
Grimsby v Braintree – Grimsby to win
Braintree’s recent away form is atrocious. They have lost their last three matches on the road and conceded seven goals in the process. We correctly predicted that they would lose to Barrow last midweek, but this fixture is equally as tough for the Essex side. The Mariners have picked up 10 points from a possible 12 at home and although the price is short, they are a good one to boost the odds. They’ve won 13 of their 21 home matches here this season and they should be able to add to that tally here. They’ve only conceded 14 goals here all season and will be tough to break down.
Odds for Grimsby to beat Braintree – 7/10 with William Hill.
