Austria v Liechtenstein – Austria to score over 3.5 team goals

Austria have had a tremendous qualifying campaign, they’ve barely put a foot wrong and they won once again on Friday night. They showed determination and great spirit to come back from 2-1 down to overcome Montenegro by 3 goals to 2. They left it late, but in the end, their quality shone through. They may take their foot off the gas and try some different formations, but they should still have far too much for their opponents. They’ve scored 19 during the campaign, only conceding 5 and Liechtenstein aren’t particularly resolute, shipping 7 to Russia and 5 last time these teams met.

 

Russia v Montenegro – Russia to score over 2.5 team goals

Russia have Sweden breathing down their necks and will want the points here. They face Montenegro who were stunned by Austria’s fightback on Friday. Russia put 3 past Montenegro away from home and I don’t see why they can’t do the same again. Dzyuba is in tremendous form for both club and country and he scored again against Moldova in the narrow 2-1 win. Russia put 4 past Belarus here and with Montenegro unable to qualify, I don’t imagine it will be too difficult for the Russians.

 

Estonia v Switzerland – Estonia +2 Handicap

Switzerland go into this match having scored 7 goals and in tremendous spirits. But, it won’t be plain sailing here as Estonia are very efficient on home soil. The only home game they have lost during the campaign was to England and that only by a narrow 1-0 margin. They don’t score often enough for my liking, but I think they might get one here. If they don’t, as long as the floodgates don’t open, we should be safe with this handicap.

 

Ukraine v Spain – Under 2.5 goals

Ukraine are quite hard to beat, they’re also quite hard to put goals past them. They’ve only conceded 3 goals in the entire qualifying campaign, one of them to Spain, when they beat them last time they met in Madrid. Spain are without David Silva and Alvaro Morata who both hobbled off on Friday. They still have tremendous strength in depth. Spain have already qualified and may choose to rest some players in order to avoid further additions to the walking wounded list. Ukraine know a win could see them qualify for the tournament and they will be as tight at the back as usual.

 

Belarus v Moldova – Belarus to score over 1.5 team goals

It’s been a poor qualifying campaign for Moldova, battered and bruised and shipping plenty of goals along the way. Belarus are back in form, although it’s too late to qualify, they’ve won their last two matches, including a 1-0 win in Slovakia on Friday. That was a tremendous victory and it must smite the Belarussian fans that they’ve started to save their best football until the gap was too wide. Last time they met, Belarus won 2-1 in Moldova and they should bag a few here. Moldova have conceded 18 goals in their qualifying games and they should take it beyond the 20 mark here.
