Football Accumulator Tips for Tonight
Cardiff v Blackburn – Draw
Both of these sides have had poor starts to the Championship season. Cardiff have a point on the board at least, but haven’t scored a goal in 300 minutes of football (League and Cup) and that’s a huge worry for the Bluebirds. Paul Trollope’s side have proved that they are solid at the back, as they were last season. They kept Birmingham out, they kept Bristol Rovers at bay for over 100 minutes and both of QPR’s goals were late in the second half. Blackburn have been woeful, but Owen Coyle insists his side will improve and this could be their best chance of picking up a point. Defence has been a problem with matches littered with individual errors and that is something they need to work on. Neither of these sides fill me with enough confidence to back be backing them here. A 0-0 draw is a very realistic scoreline.
Newcastle v Reading – Newcastle win
Newcastle haven’t got off to the start they wanted, but they should be able to bounce back here. They weren’t awful on Saturday, but they were undone by two counter attacks from a well-drilled Huddersfield side. Reading shouldn’t be as organised as the Terriers and the Royals lost their opening away trip to Wolves at the weekend. Jaap Stam won his opening game against Preston, but away from the Madjeski, I think they will struggle this season. Rafa Benitez has so much talent at his disposal and they’ve under performed so far, but this should give the 52,000 inside St James’ Park something to cheer about. Mo Diame won the penalty on Saturday and he should begin to exert his positive influence on the team. The Magpies may have already lost their 100% home record, but they should bounce back here.
Fleetwood v Oxford – Fleetwood win
Fleetwood blew a 2 goal lead on Saturday, but it was a wonder goal from Kevin Van Veen that denied them three points at home. Scunthorpe are one of the top teams in the division and will pick up many points on the road this season so Fleetwood can consider it a decent point. Uwe Rosler has still been at the club less than 3 weeks and is still exerting his influence on the players and the systems and his ideas are finally getting across. The Lancashire side were tipped to struggle and I’m sure they’ll be in the bottom half, but they showed against Leeds and Scunthorpe that they can more than hold their own. They possessed a decent home record last season and they should be able to get the better of Oxford tonight. Michael Appleton’s side will be reliant on their home form this season. They lost 2-1 to Bristol Rovers on Sunday and had a decent 45 minutes at home to Chesterfield on the opening day. But the Cods should take all of the points here.
Bristol Rovers v Bolton – Draw
It’s been a decent start to the season for Bolton Wanderers under Phil Parkinson. The former Bradford manager is decent at this level and his sides are often hard to beat. He has inherited a side already packed with talent though and he’s added sensibly. Jamie Proctor looks a savvy addition whilst a defensive partnership of Mark Beevers and David Wheater shouldn’t concede too many this season. The Trotters beat AFC Wimbledon at the weekend, but Bristol Rovers are tough to beat here and I think it’s likely to end all square. It would extend Bolton’s unbeaten run this season and be a decent point for Darrell Clarke’s side.
Dundalk v Legia – Dundalk Double Chance (win or draw)
Dundalk are dreaming of getting through to the Champions League and who could blame them? They beat BATE and were magnificent in the home tie and they could surprise Legia on home soil. It will be tough in Poland but if they can take a positive result into the second leg they will always stand a chance. Worryingly for Dundalk their league form has dropped off since they beat the side from Belarus. They’ve lost 2 matches in a row, but they were both away from home and they are much stronger here. Legia’s away form is mixed. They squeezed past newly promoted Plock, coming from 2 goals down before losing in the cup followed by a defeat to Leczna. It will be a tough Wednesday night for the Polish side and I’d prefer to have my money on Dundalk.
