Sunday’s Accumulator Tips

Bristol Rovers v Oxford United – Draw (League One)

Darrell Clarke’s side squeezed through in extra time against Championship Cardiff on Thursday and they’ll be in high spirits coming into this fixture. There’s positivity around the club and keeping hold of last season’s top scorer Matty Taylor was a huge plus. They’re on an upward trajectory and are extremely hard to beat at the Memorial Stadium as Cardiff found. Oxford drew 1-1 with Chesterfield in their opening fixture and look like a team adapting to life without Callum O’Dowda, Kemar Roofe and Danny Hylton. Liam Sercombe is able to orchestrate things from midfield and we are yet to see much of new signing Kane Hemmings, but they have the makings of a good League One side. Wes Thomas, who tends to follow Michael Appleton about looked lively on the opening weekend. Bristol Rovers haven’t beaten Oxford here since 2004 which puts me off the home win, but a point apiece is a very realistic outcome in this match.

Chicago Fire v Orlando – Chicago Fire win (MLS)

It may seem odd tipping a side at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, but they have improved recently and are particularly hard to beat at home. They are still hopeless away from home and I implore you to back against them on their travels. Here, they’ve only lost 2 of their 10 home matches. One of those defeats came on the opening day of the season (a 3-4 reverse to NYCFC) and they’ve won 3 of their last 5 matches in front of their own fans. They have won each of them 1-0 too. They’ve only conceded 6 goals in their last 8 home matches and will be tough to beat here. Under Jason Kreis Orlando have been much better of late, but they haven’t won away from home since the 18th of March and have drawn 2 and lost 2 of the last 4 games on the road.

Heracles v Willem II – Heracles win (Eredivisie)

Heracles had a decent 2015/16 campaign and they’ll be looking to recreate that in the new Eredivisie season. This is their first home game of the season and they were particularly strong in front of their own fans last season. You have to go back to the end of February to find the last time they lost here in all competitions. Willem II appear to be heading for a long and difficult season battling relegation. They lost 1-4 on the opening day to Vitesse and they always struggle at this ground. Just 1 win in 9 attempts here suggests that a home win should be backed.

Anzhi v Arsenal Tula – Anzhi win (Russian Premier League)

A home win is suggested here. Anzhi opened their campaign with a 0-0 draw with Champions CSKA Moscow which is an excellent result. Stopping them from scoring was impressive and they should be able to keep Arsenal Tula out too. The away side have just been promoted and are finding their feet. They lost 4-0 away on the opening day of the season but bounced back with a 1-0 win. That was against Kazan who are yet to find the net this season. Arsenal Tula will be better at home this season and pick up the majority of their points in front of their own fans. Anzhi could be in a similar position and they should get the job done here.

Sao Paulo v Botafogo – Sao Paulo win (Brazil Serie A)

Final selection comes from the top tier of Brazil where we are backing the home win. There are plenty of home wins in this league and Sao Paulo are pretty good here. They’ve only lost 1 of their last 5 matches here and that was against 2nd place Atletico MG. They’ve conceded just 9 goals in 9 home matches and scored 13 of their 21 goals here this season. They welcome Botafogo who are struggling. They’ve lost 3 of their last 4 away matches, drawing the other and have won just once on the road all season. Surely Sao Paulo should have enough to get the job done.
