Slovakia v Switzerland – Both Teams to Score? Yes.
Both these sides booked their places at Euro 2016 with Slovakia confirming theirs on the 12th October by beating Luxembourg 4-2. They finished behind Spain in Group C and it’s the first time they’ve qualified for the Euros as an independent nation. They had been looking in pole position before having a wobble in their three matches prior to that victory over Luxembourg. Switzerland joining England from their group in qualifying, they’d been fairly solid and although losing twice to England, they were comfortably second in a poor group. Prior to that little blip, Slovakia has scored in seven consecutive home games, including matches against Spain and Czech Republic. In their last friendly, the Swiss drew 2-2 with Poland and they like to play attacking football as they have the players to do so. Josep Drmic is a certainly a man with an eye for goal and he could be a danger for the Slovakia defence, the first bet on our acca tip this week is BTTS here.
Wales v Holland – Holland win.
Holland didn’t qualify for Euro 2016, but that won’t stop Blind from bringing a very strong squad to Cardiff. Arjen Robben is amongst the party who will travel as they look to put their disappointment behind them. There’s a lot of good teams in the Eredivisie with squads packed with promise, so it’s an odd notion that they failed to get through their group. With the pressure off for both these sides, I think the away sides quality can shine through. Part of the reason is that Wales will be without Gareth Bale, who has been allowed to rest as part of his recovery from injury. The former Spurs man has scored seven of their 11 goals during their campaign and they always look a little blunt without him. Simon Church is not the man to fire them to a victory and even if Chris Coleman gives Walsall hotshot Tom Bradshaw a debut, he may not get through the Dutch defence.
Poland v Iceland – Over 2.5 goals.
Both of these teams are qualified safely for Euro 2016 and they can be pleased with their progress over the last few years. Iceland are definitely one to watch, they may have lost 1-0 to Turkey on the match day of the group stages, but they rested a few players and Turkey need the points desperately to get ahead of the Netherlands. Both teams have scored in all of Iceland’s friendlies since 2012 and it looks set to continue here. Poland have Lewandowski in their ranks and the Bayern striker sunk Scotland with his winner. The aforementioned 1-0 reverse to Turkey was the first away match in which Iceland have failed to score since November 2013, when they were a very different outfit. Johann Berg Gudmondsson and Alfreo Finnbogason provide plenty of spark for the visitors.
Northern Ireland v Latvia – Both Teams to Score? Yes.
Northern Ireland had a blistering qualifying campaign, qualifying for France with a game to spare. Michael O’Neill did a superb job in guiding a side largely composed of football league players to a major tournament. They beat Greece here, drew with Romania and beat Finland and thoroughly deserve their place. They face Latvia here, who finished joint bottom of their group, but there was a significant improvement and upturn in results towards the end. They didn’t lose in any of their last four games, and drew five of their last six. Some good teams were held when Latvia came to town, including Iceland, Turkey and the Czech Republic. I think they’ll find a way past NI, who in turn can continue their good goalscoring form.
Belgium v Italy – Belgium win.
Belgium are a team on the rise. True, they may even have been overrated by one or two people, but they have plenty of talent and there seems to be more emerging. They’ve risen up the rankings and although this is a friendly, I think they will want to win this. They haven’t beaten the Italians since 1972 and they will want to break their unwanted record. The Red Devils haven’t lost a match in all competitions here since November 2013 when they slipped up in a friendly against Japan. I would be a bit concerned if I was backing Italy, they only put 1 past Malta, failed to take all 3 points in Croatia and Bulgaria and lost their last away International Friendly to Spain.
