Tonight’s Accumulator Tips
Southampton v Liverpool – Liverpool to qualify
Liverpool have been much improved under Jurgen Klopp, the pessimistic section of Reds fans are probably waiting for it to all go up in smoke, but the German is doing a great job and you can’t help but feel he is building for the future. His side tore Man City apart and they did a professional job against both Bordeaux and Swansea. Saints lost to Man City at the weekend, but they looked decent in patches. They haven’t set the world alight this season though, although they’ve operated at a steady pace. I fancy this one might go to extra time, but I think the side from Merseyside can prevail.
Cambridge City v Kings Lynn – Over 2.5 goals
We’re dropping down a few levels for this as we tackle a match in the Southern Premier League. Cambridge City have a few games in hand and they played last Wednesday losing 4-1 to St Neots. This week, they look to bounce back from that disappointment with a home tie against Kings Lynn who have won four of their last six and three of their last five. The away side have only failed to score four times since the start of September and three of those were against the sides with the stingiest defences in the division. Cambridge are certainly not that. The six previous game involving Cambridge City have all gone over 2.5 and this could be number seven in that sequence.
Unaio Madeira v FC Porto – Unaio Madeira +2 Handicap
Porto are as short as 1/7 for this match and whilst I do think they will win this, it’s worth taking a chance that they won’t have it all their own way. Unaio Madeira are tough to break down, they have a cohesive defensive unit and they haven’t lost a game by more than a one goal deficit this season. Their toughest challenge was hosting Sporting Braga and they only lost 1-0, which could be covered by this handicap. Porto haven’t lost yet, but they haven’t been blowing teams away on the road. They only beat Tondela by a single goal and they have the worst home form in the division. Before that, they drew 2-2 with Moreirense and had drawn 1-1 with Maritimo. The only time they’ve comprehensively beaten a side was a 1-3 win at Arouca. Unaio Madeira have only conceded eight goals all season and they will make it difficult for FC Porto.
Guingamp v Reims – Both Teams to Score? Yes
Guingamp have been pretty good at home, but they haven’t been finishing teams off lately. They did beat Toulouse 2-0 last time here, but Toulouse have a dreadful away record. Prior to that they had drawn their three previous home matches with Lille, Monaco and Lorient. They did score in all of those and conceding a goal to low scoring Lille is a concern defensively. Reims have been in a dreadful run of form, but green shoots of recovery were evident in their 2-2 draw with Rennes at the weekend. They scored twice and almost won the match despite being down to 10 men. After a famine, they’ve now scored in their last three matches, notching four times and I think they can give the Guingamp defence something to think about.
