Fleetwood Town v Barnsley Preview and Betting Tips – 04/02/16

Fleetwood v Barnsley preview and betting tips for tonight’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final first leg where both teams will be looking to secure an advantage and take a step to Wembley.

On Thursday night, there’s action from the JPT as a place at Wembley in April is up for grabs for either Fleetwood or Barnsley. We’ve picked out the best bets.

Fleetwood Town v Barnsley Predictions

Barnsley have reaped the rewards of keeping faith with their manager and Lee Johnson has been nominated for manager of the month after winning 100% of their games in January. He’s been helped of course by having an in-form striker in the shape of Sam Winnall, but it’s no fluke that the Tykes have recently jumped 7 places in the league.

At the time of writing, Lee Johnson has been linked with the Bristol City job, but he would prefer to keep his and the players focus on this important second leg. The 1st leg ended 1-1 and both sides will be working hard to book a place in the final against League Two Oxford.

Fleetwood have had a mixed season and proved they still have defensive problems when they relinquished a goal lead to low scorers Bradford at the weekend. Stephen Pressley has worked the loan market, but has yet to see the benefits and the Cod Army will be nervously concentrating on avoiding the drop back to the 4th tier.

It’s no win in three now for the Fylde Coast club, but they have generally been strong at Highbury. Its ten points taken from a possible 15 at home and they will not surrender easily.

Fleetwood don’t have a natural goalscorer and that is proving a problem. It’s just seven goals scored in eight games for the Cods and with Bobby Grant, their top scorer with seven, not always a guaranteed starter and their second top scorer Jamie Proctor having joined Bradford this week, you can see why they have been struggling to finish teams off.

In contrast, Sam Winnall has matched the total of Fleetwood’s top scorer in January alone with seven strikes since the 2nd of the month. He also scored twice against Fleetwood’s neighbours Blackpool at the end of December.

I can’t go any further without tipping the man of the moment to find the net during the 90 minutes.

The first of my Fleetwood v Barnsley betting tips is for Sam Winnall to score anytime. He’s 7/4 with Ladbrokes.

Barnsley have scored 20 goals in their last eight games and I fancy them to slot a few more past Fleetwood for tonight’s football tips. Despite the speculation over the manager’s future this week, I think they’ll be keen to give the fans something to look forward to and book their place in the final. With their current form, it’s hard to back against them.

The second of my football predictions for Fleetwood v Barnsley today is for Barnsley to win. They can be backed at 2/1 with Betfair.

Apart from the Swindon match, Barnsley have tended to net in the first half of games before going on to seal the victory later on. I fancy them to score and win both halves here.

The third of my football betting tips for Fleetwood v Barnsley is for Barnsley/Barnsley HT/FT. The best odds are 17/4 with Bet Victor.
