Burnley v Derby County Betting Preview, Predictions and Tips

Burnley v Derby County preview and predictions for tonight’s Championship fixture and our football tipsters’ best bets.

It’s an intriguing top of the table encounter in the Championship on Monday nigtonight. Derby visit East Lancashire to take on in-form Burnley. We have the best bets for the match in our betting preview.

Burnley v Derby County Predictions

It’s been a strange few weeks for Derby County, they appeared to be putting together a convincing case for promotion, but they’ve stuttered of late and will be worried about losing ground on leaders Middlesbrough and second place Hull City. It’s hard to put your finger on what has gone wrong in the Rams camp. Paul Clement publicly lambasted his players in his post-match press-conference and the owner even got involved.

The money that has been spent in the East Midlands pretty much means its promotion or bust for Derby and they will desperate not to replicate last season’s slide. They’ve bought well, Jacob Butterfield and Nick Blackman are proven in this division, but another defender is surely required after being carved open by a rampant Birmingham last weekend.

Burnley meanwhile have been scoring for fun, they stuck another three past Brentford last Friday night, which came hot off the back of putting five past MK Dons. Andre Gray didn’t net in that win in West London, but they showed they have goals from all areas with Scott Arfield, Joey Barton and George Boyd all chipping in.

Sean Dyche’s sides are always hard to beat and I fear for Derby here. Burnley’s only two recent defeats came at Middlesbrough (which they avenged in the FA Cup) and Hull City.

They lost to Preston here, but there’s always a different atmosphere to derbies and I always find them more problematic from a betting perspective.

They have hit four in each of their last two home games, but they were against strugglers Charlton and Bristol City.

There just is just something not quite right about the mentality of Derby County whereas you get the feeling the Burnley camp (even with Joey Barton) is tight-knit and are in it for one another. I fancy the Clarets to take this for tonight’s football predictions.

My first Burnley v Derby prediction is for Burnley to win. They can be backed at 8/5 with Bet Victor or 8/1 if you open a new Paddy Power account below.

Burnley v Derby tips

Whilst they kept a clean sheet against low-scorers MK Dons, Burnley showed that increased pressure and being under the cosh can sometimes reveal cracks. Alan Judge found a way through for Brentford. They have kept a terrific number of clean sheets though and Derby have scored just one goal in the last three matches. I think this one might be decided on fine margins.

My second Championship prediction for Burnley v Derby tonight is for Under 2.5 goals. It can be backed at 8/13 with Sky Bet Bet.

I suggested Andre Gray to score against Brentford last weekendin my anytime goalscorer tips, but he didn’t managed to convert and we missed out. I think he is always worth a play, but as he takes out a great portion of the market, I’d prefer to go for Scott Arfield at a larger price. He scored last week and has an eye for goal from a midfield position.

The final Burnley v Derby betting tip is for Scott Arfield to score anytime. He can be backed at 11/2 with Paddy Power.
