Blackburn v Rotherham
This one immediately catches the eye when it comes to BTTS as both teams are yet to master the art of defending this season. The Millers are coming off the back of two consecutive 2-2 draws, both games in which they took the lead (3rd time it’s happened this season). Alan Stubbs has some work to do with his back four and it doesn’t look like Kirk Broadfoot is likely to make his return here, which doesn’t help matters. Darnell Fisher who was sent off during the week misses out. Blackburn are rock-bottom of the league and need points urgently. Owen Coyle always faced an uphill task, but the 2-1 defeat at Leeds was yet another show of poor defending. They have been scoring goals though, they have the players to hurt Rotherham, but neither back four appears to have heard of a clean sheet.
Port Vale v Gillingham
Port Vale started the season is solid fashion keeping a couple of clean sheets, but the Valiants have opened up since then and failed to keep a team off the scoresheet since the 16th of August. They even shipped four at Bury which was very poor, but they were hindered by the weather conditions. Vale have had a mixed start, but they find themselves in the right half of the table and they are strong at home. The Gills are the 6th highest scorers in the league with 11 goals so far. Justin Edinburgh’s side have been entertaining this season with Jay Emmanuel Thomas pulling the strings. It was good to see Cody McDonald back on the scoresheet last week as well. If he gets a run in the side, he could score plenty, but I think they will definitely find a way past Vale. The visitors haven’t managed a clean sheet in any of their last five games and that includes being thumped for five by Scunthorpe.
Doncaster v Newport
Donny have started to put a nice little run together and they are climbing the table. The injuries are still present, but they’ve been able to bring a few players back. They still have Gary McSheffrey to return to the side and he could propel them even further. They’ve been scoring for fun as well and they should find the Newport defence of little resistance. Andy Williams is easily a League One striker and James Coppinger still oozes class. They’ve hit 10 goals in three games and they could get a few here. Newport tend to always score, but frustratingly for their fans, they can’t turn draws into wins. It’s four games since they picked up maximum points and they’ve scored in every match this season. That should continue here. Donny haven’t kept a clean sheet for three matches.
Grimsby v Crewe
Grimsby have hit form in the last couple of games and after a relatively slow start to the campaign, they have found their scoring touch and Omar Bogle has been an integral part of that. The striker has been sensation and starred in the 5-2 over Stevenage. They’ve hit 9 goals in 3 games and even beat high flying Luton last weekend. They should find a way past a Crewe side who have only kept two clean sheets in the league and lack experience at the back. Both teams have scored in every Grimsby game in the league since the opening day and It could be the same outcome here.
