Stoke v Arsenal

It’s always a feisty one at the Britannia when Arsene Wenger’s side come to town. There’s been too many flare ups to mention, but Stoke are a very different side now, playing impressive passing football under Mark Hughes with a mixture of very talented players and workhorses. They won 3-1 here against Norwich on Wednesday night to make it three victories in four and move the Potters up to 7th in the table. Arsenal were involved in one of many topsy-turvy matches in midweek drawing 3-3 with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. The Gunners are still top but level on points with surprise package Leicester City. They score plenty of goals – 37 in 21. They’ve only failed to score four times all season and just twice since the 24th of August. Defensive fragility has been one of the features of Stoke’s season, but it’s just a single clean sheet in five now and they’ve shipped seven goals in that time. Arsenal have kept four clean sheets since the end of October, but they were against four of the current bottom five.

Feyenoord v PSV

I’m absolutely delighted to see the Eredivisie back on the footballing menu after the brief winter break. On the first week back, we are served up a real treat in the shape of 2nd vs 3rd. Rotterdam will be hosting this top of the table clash and we’re expecting goals here. It ended 3-1 to the champions when they met in Eindhoven earlier in the season and it could be a similar scoreline here. Friendlies have been played during the shutdown of the Eredivisie with Feyenoord drawing 3-3 with Belgian side Charleroi whilst PSV lost 2-1 to Hibernians. PSV have always been a bit suspect defensively this season, keeping just two clean sheets since the 12th September. Giving away too many goals has been a problem for Phillip Cocu and it’s one of the reasons why they trail Ajax in the quest for back to back championships. Feyenoord score plenty of goals, having only failed to net once all season, which was at ADO Den Haag. Their record of shutouts isn’t great either, just two since the end of September and one of those against out of form FC Twente. This should be a cracker and hopefully see both sides on the scoresheet.

Groningen v FC Utrecht

A second Dutch game for the 4-fold as home specialists Groningen welcome in-form Utrecht to the Euroborg. Groningen have scored in every match in front of their home crowd this season and look to continue that here. They have recently stopped the rot of their poor away form which saw them pick up a single point from their first five away games, failing to score in their first four. FC Utrecht went into the break in sensational form and both these sides could go as high as 5th with a victory here. The visitors picked up a point at AZ in a 2-2 draw before Christmas and that leaves them with just a single clean sheet on the road all season, which came recently against bottom club De Graafschap. They’ve been on the scoresheet in all but two matches this season and this game should produce a few goals.

Arouca v Moreirense

Off to Portugal for our final selection in the BTTS 4-fold. Moreirense have low goal scoring stats, but before you think I’m going mad, those stretch across the whole season. This is a side who failed to score in four of their opening five matches, but have since only failed to net twice in 12. They even scored against Porto in that run and twice against Sporting CP. They’ve definitely found their goalscoring touch of late – 19 goals in 17 games is not great, but 10 of those have come in the last 5 matches. They were beaten 5-1 last time out, but were also on the wrong end of a 3-4 defeat at the start of January. Arouca tend to spread their goals out a little more scoring 22 times this campaign and have now scored in each of their last seven matches in the league. They’ve also only kept one clean sheet since the start of November, that was here to low-scorers Estoril.
