Birmingham vs Sheffield Wednesday Predictions and Betting Tips

Birmingham vs Sheffield Wednesday predictions and betting tips for the late kick-off in the Championship on Saturday evening.

Sheffield Wednesday make the trip to the Midlands to face Birmingham in the 5:30 kick off. We’ve got the best football betting tips for the match at St Andrews.

Birmingham vs Sheffield Wednesday Preview

Birmingham

Birmingham have been really impressive of late and they will look to continue that fine form at home to Sheffield Wednesday. It didn’t take an expert pundit to predict that their match at Reading on Tuesday would contain few goals, but the goalless draw was a decent point for the Blues, who are now three unbeaten.

Gary Rowett’s side are far from a fashionable Championship outfit, but they are an extremely effective one and they have a thoroughly decent manager at the helm.

It’s three matches since they conceded a goal and it has put the embarrassment of the 3-1 defeat here to Wolves well and truly behind them.

They could perhaps be accused of lacking a cutting edge at times, but captain Michael Morrison has come out this week and said his side aren’t worried about that. They’ve added Che Adams from Sheffield United and he gives them a different option to Clayton Donaldson who leads the line so effectively. Lukas Jutkiewicz is another new recruit, who given time to settle in should provide the goals.

Donaldson gets through plenty of work and scored the match winner against Fulham from the penalty spot. He even missed one that day, but it didn’t affect the final result. Even Rowett has called for more ‘attacking verve’ from his side and time will tell if his request has been answered.

Credit must go to Michael Morrison and Ryan Shotton at the back, who have been solid of late, ably supported by Jonathon Spector. They are solid and hard to break down.

They will fancy their chances of keeping out the majority of sides in this division even one as free-scoring as Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday

It’s been a mixed bag from Sheffield Wednesday so far this season. But they appear to have turned the corner and are unbeaten in three. They turned around the match against Bristol City in midweek in a topsy-turvy affair amid unseasonable weather.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side were possibly affected by the transfer speculation swirling around Fernando Forestieri and it knocked them off their perch as they lost to Leeds and Burton in quick succession.

Better was expected from last season’s play-off contenders and they will once again be aiming to challenge at the top of the table.

Wednesday have shipped 9 goals in their opening 7 matches and they will miss Sam Hutchinson here, who is suspended following his red card in midweek. The good news for the Owls is that Glen Loovens is back and ready to step into the breach.

Loovens should add some stability to the backline and his presence has been missed.

At the other end, Stephen Fletcher has been firing in goals for his new club although there’s been disappointingly few from his fellow frontmen. Wednesday will look to create chances and play pretty football, but they may be snuffed out by Birmingham. They will have to ensure they don’t become frustrated.

Despite their impressive campaign last season, Wednesday have regularly had issues away from home. You have to go back to the 2nd of April to find the last time they won on the road. They haven’t travelled well and this is not an easy ground to pick up points.

Birmingham vs Sheffield Wednesday Predictions

Birmingham secured a point away at Reading in the week and I think it could be the second draw in a week for them here. They will keep it solid and look to create chances of their own, but Sheffield Wednesday can be pretty dangerous so for my first Birmingham vs Sheffield Wednesday betting tip I’m sticking with the full time result as a draw at 23/10 with Bet Victor.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals Tips

Sheffield Wednesday don’t travel well and they could find their chances limited at St Andrews. Birmingham don’t have too many goals in them – this one could be a slow burner and so under 2.5 goals is my second Championship prediction for this weekend’s fixture.

Anytime Goalscorer Tips

The Sheffield Wednesday fans won’t like it if former Sheffield United man Che Adams scores against them, but he hasn’t netted in the last couple of games and I’d feel more comfortable siding with Clayton Donaldson for my final Birmingham vs Sheffield Wednesday betting tip. He should still be on penalty duty as well after making amends for the missed on in the match against Fulham.
