Aston Villa vs Brentford Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Aston Villa v Brentford predictions and betting tips for this midweek Championship fixture including the best odds and reasons for each selection made by our tipster.

One of two Wednesday night fixtures in the Championship comes from Villa Park as Aston Villa host Brentford. We’ve got the best football betting tips for the match.

Aston Villa Team Preview

There were encouraging signs for Aston Villa on Sunday, but they blew their lead late on and the hit and miss start to the season continues. After a goalless first half, they found themselves trailing to an Apostos Vellios strike before their strike-force turned the game around with quickfire goals from Ross McCormack and Rudy Gestede. A Henri Lansbury equaliser was a real sucker-punch for the hosts who would have earmarked that match as three points. Credit to Forest though, they showed tremendous spirit, but despite an influx of quality signings, Roberto Di Matteo still has work to do.

They get chance to rectify it immediately as they are home again on Tuesday night hosting Brentford.

They’ve got 6 points from 6 games and have scored 7 goals and conceded 7 goals. There’s a lovely symmetry to Villa’s early season form, but that won’t satisfy the supporters who are suffering the hangover of Premier League relegation.

At least the fans aren’t witnessing anything close to last season’s shambles, but they will seek improvement, especially with a management team of RDM and Steve Clarke.

They’ve also invested heavily under new chairman Tony Xia with around £30m shelled out for forward duo Ross McCormack and Jonathon Kodjia. Few Championship clubs have that kind of spending power.

Perhaps the Villa players are lacking in confidence, but the outburst by the new chairman won’t do them any good. He ‘Slammed’ his players for letting the lead slip. With the exception of Darragh McAnthony of Peterborough, it’s unusual to see an owner criticise the playing staff publicly.

‘I would never forgive myself if I made the same again’ he added. Suggesting that Villa aren’t learning from their mistakes.

With such heavy investment, some would say he is within his rights to say what he likes, but it’s a fine line and he has to be careful not to undermine the management team.

It’s early days for Villa, but this isn’t an easy fixture for them.

Brentford Team Preview

It was a terrific result for Brentford at the weekend as they defeated Brighton at the AMEX. They ended the Seagull’s long unbeaten run with two Scott Hogan strikes and they’ll be looking to build upon that in the West Midlands.

Manager Dean Smith said that it showed what his side are capable of. They rode their luck at times with several Anthony Knockaert chances missed, but they deserved their three points.

Prior to Saturday, they had been strong at home, but poor on the road. It all changed on the South Coast. The three points move them up to 6th in the table (before Tuesday’s fixtures) and impressively they’ve only conceded 4 goals in 6 matches.

They looked decent at the back and summer recruit John Egan cleared off the line to preserve his side’s clean sheet at the weekend.

The Bees played with plenty of energy at the AMEX and despite a bit of a trek and just two days between matches, they will have to replicate that here.

Having Hogan back is a huge boost. He’s a natural goalscorer who has that knack of appearing in the right place at the right time. With Lewis MacLeod and Romaine Sawyers behind him plus the addition of Sully KaiKai from Crystal Palace, they should create plenty of chances.

Dean Smith knows about Villa as he used to watch them growing up, but his side haven’t played them since 1953. He’s hoping to take advantage of the huge turnover in their squad. Barring any last minute niggles or injuries, Smith is likely to name largely the same side which beat Brighton.

Lasse Vibe is back from suspension, but may have to be content with a place on the bench.

Aston Villa vs Brentford Predictions

It’s a tricky one to call. Villa have such power and pace going forward, but they have forgotten how to win. They still have moments of calamity at the back and Brentford could take advantage. The Bees have only lost once in 5 and appear to have great spirit. The return of Lasse Vibe should give them more bit up front and so my first Aston Villa vs Brentford prediction is the game to end a draw. The best odds for the draw are 3/1 at bet365.

Both Teams to Score Tips

There’s no doubt that Villa will provide plenty of entertainment throughout the campaign, but not always to the joy of their supporters. Brentford also have goals in them and were lucky to keep Brighton out at the weekend so my next football betting tip is for both teams to score, the best odds are 13/16 at 888Sport.

Anytime Goalscorer Tip

Ross McCormack got us the money at the weekend with a winning anytime goalscorer betting tip tip, but I’m going to opt for the aforementioned Scott Hogan here to complete our Wednesday night bets on this match. He’s off the mark for the season and will be confident of continuing it here.
