Football Accumulator Tips 15th January

Sampdoria v Empoli – Sampdoria win

The first selection comes from Serie A where we fancy the hosts to get the better of low-scoring Empoli. Sampdoria have won five of their nine home games this season beating Inter, Sassuolo, Torino, Genoa and Atalanta so far. They are tough to break down and attack in numbers. Their only defeats here came against Milan and Lazio, sides who currently occupy 3rd and 4th place. Last time out, they drew 0-0 with in-form Udinese and facing Empoli should be a little easier. It’s been a funny old season for the Tuscan side who now have a 7 point advantage over the bottom three. Their home victory over Palermo gave them a safety net over the strugglers and they will be looking to kick on. They’ve failed to score in three of their last five away games and have netted just once on the road since the beginning of November. Empoli have lost four of their last five visits here, drawing the other one.

Sassuolo v Palermo – Sassuolo win

Sassuolo had a dreadful start to the 2016/17 season and struggled to compete in both the Europa League and Serie A. Eusebio Di Francesco’s side have been eliminated from the European competition and can now concentrate on climbing the table. They come here off the back of two tricky home matches against Inter and Torino where they conceded just one goal. Domenico Berardi is back as is Timo Letschert and suddenly the injury list isn’t so expansive. Palermo have improved under new manager Eugenio Corrini, but they suffered a limp defeat to Empoli last weekend and it’s sunk them further into the relegation mire. Sassuolo previously beat the Tuscan side 3-0 here and should be strong enough to collect three points here.

Granada v Osasuna – Granada win

Two strugglers meet on Sunday afternoon as Granada host Osasuna. The hosts had looked resurgent beating Sevilla and drawing with Gijon, but they’ve since lost back to back games. A 5-0 thumping at the hands of Real Madrid won’t do their confidence much good but they are better at home. They do have a good record against Osasuna winning three of the last five meetings with them and the other two ending all square. Osasuna picked up a home draw against Valencia on Monday then held Eibar to a goalless draw in the Copa Del Rey. With three games in a week, Osasuna could be tired and struggle once again against this opposition.

Sevilla v Real Madrid – Sevilla win

These two meet for the third time in 12 days and they are level at one win a-piece. Sevilla lost 3-0 at the Bernabeu before drawing 3-3 at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Thursday night. Jorge Sampaoli suggested he was prioritising this match as opposed to the cup game, so they will certainly be up for this re-match. They will be desperate to close the gap on the leaders and they are full of goals at the moment. Stefan Jovetic netted in midweek, his first for his new club and Real Madrid will not be looking forward to visiting this stadium again. They don’t have a good record here and were defeated 3-2 here last season.

Sporting Gijon v Eibar – Eibar

Our final selection also comes from La Liga as struggling Gijon host Eibar. The hosts do score goals here and held Sevilla to a draw back in October before beating Osasuna in December. They haven’t been in good form recently, but are stronger at home. Eibar have already won here this season in the Copa Del Rey but needed a 90th minute goal to clinch the victory and could continue their winning run here. They’ve been victorious in the last three matches and should take advantage of a Gijon side who struggle to defend. They rested a few players in midweek having already been 3-0 up from the first leg and that could benefit them here.
