Utrecht v Excelsior
Our opening match comes from Holland as Utrecht take on Excelsior at 11:30am. The hosts head into their clash this Sunday off the back of yet another BTTS result last weekend. Utrecht have now seen their strike-rate for both teams scoring rise to 73%, and this is currently the joint highest ratio in the division. Opponents, Excelsior are right in the middle of an absolutely shocking run of form that has seen them lose their last five matches in a row, conceding ten goals in the process. Although their BTTS record is nothing spectacular at a modest 55%, they have managed to score against Feyenoord, PSV and FC Twente already this season and I fancy them to do their bit again this weekend as well.
Arsenal v Tottenham
The second selection on the BTTS tip this weekend takes us to the Premier League and the North London Derby between Arsenal and Spurs at midday. Under normal circumstances I would rarely consider Tottenham’s inclusion on a BTTS bet such is their defensive nature. However, this is the North London Derby we are talking about and this fixture is statistically one of the highest scoring fixtures in Premier League history. Hosts, Arsenal head into the match in decent form and are currently on a ten match unbeaten run following their 3-4 opening day defeat to Liverpool. Arsene Wenger’s side have been scoring plenty of goals lately as well, and head into the Derby off the back of a 1-4 and 2-3 victories away at Sunderland and Ludogorets. Both matches ended in BTTS draws last season and I expect to be the same result this time around as well.
Morecambe v Coventry
Our penultimate choice comes to us from the FA Cup first round as Coventry travel to Morecambe at 14:00pm. The hosts in this one were arguably one of the most reliable teams for a BTTS results last season, and whilst they haven’t quite hit those heights this year, they still remain a terrific candidate based on their awful defensive record. The Shrimps actually started the current campaign in excellent form but have fallen into an almighty slump over the last couple of months, losing their last six straight league matches at home and conceding a whopping 18 goals in the process. In stark contrast, Coventry had a dreadful start to the 2016/17 season but have actually managed to find a bit of form over the last month and a half. The Sky Blues have won four of their last six matches and this has taken them to just outside the play off places in League One. I expect there to be plenty of goals in this one, and hopefully with both teams scoring.
Roma v Bologna
The anchor leg for this Sunday’s BTTS tip comes from Serie A as second-placed Roma take on Bologna at 19:45pm. I Giallorossi are in fine form at the moment and head into this weekend off the back of a thumping 2-4 victory away at Austria Wien in the Europa League on Thursday. Domestically, Roma have now gone five games unbeaten in the league and recorded BTTS results in four of those games along the way. In addition to this statistic, the hosts are also the highest scoring side in the Italian top flight this season and recorded BTTS draws in both matches against Bologna last year. The visitors aren’t exactly tearing up Serie A at the moment, but they do look a decent bet for a goal this Sunday. Over the course of this campaign, Bologna have managed to score in every away game so far and this has included trips to Lazio, Inter and Napoli. With all these facts in mind, this fixture has to make it on to our coupon this weekend.
