Tranmere have been in the news this week with incoming manager Mickey Mellon leaving League One Shrewsbury to join the club. The Wirral side dispensed of the services of Gary Brabin in September after a disappointing couple of weeks under the former Southport man. Paul Carden has taken temporary charge and they come here off the back of a disappointing loss against Gateshead in midweek. It’s likely that Mellon will take a watching brief this weekend as his new side take on Wrexham. He played twice for Tranmere during his career and knows the club inside out. We don’t know what to expect from Tranmere yet under Mickey Mellon and with the former Shrewsbury boss only being appointed on Friday, he might not have time to get his feet under the table. Having little time to get to know the strengths and weaknesses of his new players, Mellon’s first team selection will probably be heavily influenced by Paul Carden. Mitchell Duggan was handed his first senior start in midweek, but could drop back to the bench here.
Connor Jennings and Michael Ihiekwe are back after suspension. James Norwood is unlikely to be fit for this encounter.
For Wrexham, midfielder Jordan Evans asked to be released from Wales Under 21 duty to keep his place in the Wrexham side and is certain to start here. Hamza Bencherif has been reinstated into midfield after a spell at the back, he netted against Lincoln and this is his preferred position.
John Rooney was one of three strikers against Boreham Wood and it appeared to work well for the Dragons. They could start with a front three here.
