Tranmere vs Wrexham Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Tranmere vs Wrexham predictions and football betting tips for this weekend’s National League live TV fixture including an anytime goalscorer and over/under 2.5 goals bet.

Tranmere have been in the news this week with incoming manager Mickey Mellon leaving League One Shrewsbury to join the club. The Wirral side dispensed of the services of Gary Brabin in September after a disappointing couple of weeks under the former Southport man. Paul Carden has taken temporary charge and they come here off the back of a disappointing loss against Gateshead in midweek. It’s likely that Mellon will take a watching brief this weekend as his new side take on Wrexham. He played twice for Tranmere during his career and knows the club inside out. It’s just a single win in five games and they’ll be looking to put that right on Saturday lunchtime. Wrexham’s Gary Mills has been under pressure in recent weeks, but his side were applauded off against Lincoln in midweek despite losing 2-1.

Tranmere vs Wrexham Predictions

Wrexham’s form has been erratic recently. A 0-0 with Chester was followed by a 1-0 win against Boreham Wood before the narrow defeat to Lincoln on Tuesday night. We don’t know what to expect from Tranmere yet under Mickey Mellon and with the former Shrewsbury boss only being appointed on Friday, he might not have time to get his feet under the table. The Tranmere victory is a little short in the betting odds and Wrexham were much improved in midweek. The draw seems a sensible play for our first Tranmere vs Wrexham prediction.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals Betting Tips

These sides aren’t often involved in high scoring affairs. Tranmere have scored just 15 goals in 14 games with just 4 of their 14 matches have featuring three or more goals this season. Wrexham have netted just twice in five games and I can’t see them firing many past their opponents here so our second Tranmere vs Wrexham betting tip is for under 2.5 goals to be scored.

Anytime Goalscorer Tips

Tranmere haven’t scored for two games, but they last ran riot here against Woking. In that match, Andy Cook was the difference with a couple of strikes and he’s the subject of our anytime goalscorer prediction for Tranmere vs Wrexham. They were his 4th and 5th goals of the season and I think he can add to that here.

Tranmere vs Wrexham Team News

Having little time to get to know the strengths and weaknesses of his new players, Mellon’s first team selection will probably be heavily influenced by Paul Carden. Mitchell Duggan was handed his first senior start in midweek, but could drop back to the bench here.

Connor Jennings and Michael Ihiekwe are back after suspension. James Norwood is unlikely to be fit for this encounter.

For Wrexham, midfielder Jordan Evans asked to be released from Wales Under 21 duty to keep his place in the Wrexham side and is certain to start here. Hamza Bencherif has been reinstated into midfield after a spell at the back, he netted against Lincoln and this is his preferred position.

John Rooney was one of three strikers against Boreham Wood and it appeared to work well for the Dragons. They could start with a front three here.

Tranmere vs Wrexham Head to Head

Wrexham have dominated this fixture in recent years and are undefeated in their last four against Tranmere. These sides last met in April with the Welsh side running out 2-1 winners. They also met in the FA Trophy with Wrexham winning 4-2. Tranmere last beat their opponents in 2005 when both sides were in League One!

Tranmere vs Wrexham Betting Odds

The home side are heavy favourites for this encounter with the best price at around 3/4. Their price isn’t a surprise given that they are in front of their own fans with a new manager in place. Wrexham have been inconsistent and pressure on boss Gary Mills, they can backed at around 4/1.

Connor Jennings is back from suspension for the hosts and leads the way in the anytime goalscorer market.
