Fulham v Bristol City – Draw

Fulham started the season well and looked destined for a season in the top half of the table, but they’ve just tailed off slightly of late. They’ve remained hard to beat though with just a single 0-1 defeat to Birmingham this season. They also played the majority of that game with 10 men after Michael Madl’s dismissal. Their last two games have ended all square, but have netted just twice in four games which is a slight concern to Cottagers’ fans. Bristol City have proved to be the kind of side who never know when they’re beaten. They score plenty of late goals and struck a late equaliser against Derby at the weekend. They also rattled the bar, so could easily have taken all three points. They have drawn two of their last three league games and these two teams are proving hard to separate. A draw and an extra 30 minutes of football seems the logical option.

Southampton v Crystal Palace – Southampton to qualify

The Saints are improving under Claude Puel and the results have proved that. An easy victory over Sparta Prague was followed by a hard-fought 3 points over Swansea at the weekend. Charlie Austin, Jay Rodriguez and Shane Long make a fairly decent forward line and at St Marys, they have been strong. Palace have won two in a row and should make a good fist of it here, but Alan Pardew is likely to make changes. They won’t face an easier opponent than Stoke (in current form) this season and I don’t think the former Newcastle boss will be letting fans or players get carried away by that victory. The Saints at home will be strong and even if they get taken to extra time, I still think they will make it through.

QPR v Sunderland – QPR win

True, it’s not been the best week for the R’s or Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, but they can make amends with a cup win against struggling Sunderland here. The Black Cats only lost 1-0 to Spurs at the weekend, but they have a chronic lack of goals in their side with only Jermaine Defoe a threat in the side. The striker may be rested here as David Moyes looks to protect him ahead of the weekend. QPR have played the top two in the league and were only beaten 2-1 by Huddersfield, which wasn’t a bad result. They had tightened up and made themselves harder to beat after the 6-0 defeat to Newcastle and if JFH can get his tactics right here, they could cause a shock. Loftus Road is never an easy place to go (Unless you’re Newcastle) and Sunderland could find it difficult here, particularly without the suspended Adnan Januzaj.

Udinese v Fiorentina – Fiorentina win

Udinese were leading here for the majority of the match on Sunday lunchtime, but they were undone by two late Chievo goals. They looked unsure defensively in that match and they’re back in front of their own fans trying to make amends against very decent opposition. Fiorentina lost their opening fixture at Juventus, they’ve since won both matches 1-0 including an impressive victory over AS Roma. They’ve not conceded a goal for three games now and I fancy them to Udinese out. The home side had made an okay start to the season with decent wins against AC Milan and Empoli, but they looked vulnerable on Sunday and a solid Fiorentina side can take all three points home here.

Lyon v Montpellier – Lyon win

Since moving to their new stadium, Lyon have been very hard to beat here. They have managed to win 11 of their last 13 games here in all competitions and they should add to that total for the visit of Montpellier. The visitors held Nice to a 1-1 draw at home at the weekend, but away from home, they aren’t quite as reliable. Lyon were held to a 0-0 draw on Sunday night in Marseille and it now means they’ve kept four clean sheets in six games. Montpellier tend to concede and I can see a fairly straightforward home victory here.
