Leicester vs Chelsea Preview

Leicester

It’s been quite the week for the Foxes! Convincing in Europe against Club Brugge as they ran out 3-0 winners in Belgium and that was quickly followed by another 3-0 win against Premier League newboys Burnley. There were also the first King Power goals in a Leicester shirt for Islam Slimani, an expensive summer recruit from Sporting Club De Portugal.

Up until Wednesday, it hadn’t been the ideal start for the Champions as they’d lost against Liverpool and been defeated by Hull on the opening day of the season.

Claudio Ranieri has put that right though and they remain unbeaten here at home. They also have found the net in all but one home game since the beginning of January.

N’Golo Kante may have gone (he’ll be facing his former employers here) but keeping hold of Riyad Mahrez was vitally important and he ran the show against the Clarets. Ranieri has said he hopes the former midfielder gets a warm welcome on his return. Kante was the only member of the title winning team to leave in the summer, but he should get a rapturous reception for his part in the success.

With participation in Europe, this is a hectic period for the Foxes and they may wish to rest a few key players here. Don’t be surprised to see the likes of Andy King, Demerai Gray, Leonardo Ulloa, Shinji Okazaki and Ahmed Musa to in line for a start. Either way, it’s not a bad batch to bring in.

Matty James, Kasper Schmeichel and Nampalys Mendy will not be involved.

Ranieri didn’t do badly against his former employers last campaign as the sides played out a 1-1 draw and the Foxes clinching a 2-1 victory here at the King Power.

Chelsea

In contrast, it hasn’t been the best week for Antonio Conte. The Italian lost his first home game in charge of a club since 2013 as his Chelsea side fell to a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Friday night.

A wonder goal from Jordan Henderson put Liverpool in the driving seat, but it was a much improved second half performance from the Blues, but Diego Costa’s strike wasn’t enough to salvage something.

Costa has responded well to Conte’s management and seems to be flourishing, despite only ever appearing to be minutes away from a petulant booking.

Conte has got the backing of his opposite number here as Ranieri says he has no doubt that the former Italy boss will be a success in the Premier League, but needs to be given time.

Chelsea had won 4 and drawn 1 of their first 5 competitive games under Conte before Friday’s setback. They had looked decent against Burnley before a 2-2 draw with Swansea. Worryingly for Blues fans, their side has only kept one clean sheet this campaign and that includes the previous round of the EFL Cup v Bristol Rovers.

There are likely to be changes for this fixture with Victor Moses and Ruben Loftus-Cheek likely to start. Pedro and Batshuayi could also be set for starts. John Terry has said he will be back ‘very soon’, but they will have to play this match without the experienced centre back.

Leicester v Chelsea Predictions

Both sides are looking to make major changes to their starting line-up in this one. Leicester have plenty of talented players waiting in the wings. Chelsea will also shuffle their pack and once again, there will be no shortage of players trying to make an impression. I think this is a good game for the neutral and we may get an addition 30 minutes so my first Leicester vs Chelsea betting tip is for the game to end a draw. The best odds for this are 14/5 with bet365.

Both Teams to Score Tips

There were goals in both of the sides’ meetings last season and Chelsea are finding it hard to keep clean sheets this season. Both sides have kept Burnley out recently, but defences have not been the strong point so my second Leicester vs Chelsea prediction is for both teams to score in the 90 minutes.

Anytime Goalscorer Tips

With mass changes expected, it’s always a little trickier to pin down a particular goalscorer. Shinji Okazaki is likely to be in the starting 11. The Japanese star has largely featured from the bench this season, but he’ll be looking to take his opportunity here.
