Tuesday Night Accumulator Tips
Bournemouth v Preston – Bournemouth win
Bournemouth haven’t started the season as they would have liked, but there is no doubt that Eddie Howe is the man to turn it around. They’ve had some difficult fixtures which included facing both Manchester clubs, but they will be disappointed not to get anything against the likes of West Ham, given their recent form. They’ve spent big again this summer and more is expected from the team this time around. They could see this competition as a relief and a chance to give some of the fringe players a run in the side. Preston lost 5-0 away at Brentford at the weekend and will be looking to bounce back, but staying in the Championship is clearly a priority. Although the likes of Cardiff and Rotherham are propping up the table, there is a danger that Preston could easily be sucked into the battle and they need to improve their backline if they are to keep afloat. A long journey down to Dean Court isn’t ideal in the middle of the week and I think the Premier League outfit can come out on top.
Leeds v Blackburn – Leeds win
This is a repeat of last week’s midweek fixture at Elland Road where Leeds came out on top. Since then, Blackburn have picked up their first league win, but they won’t have an easier fixture than Rotherham at home. Leeds also picked up a victory over bottom club Cardiff and looked pretty decent for their three points. Pontus Jansson has made a good impression since arriving to sure up the backline whilst Pablo Hernandez and Chris Wood are starting to strike up an understanding. They have pace on the wings too and Garry Monk is starting to get it right. Owen Coyle was delighted with his first victory of the season, but his side still managed to concede twice although they looked potent coming forward. Leeds will provide a stiffer challenge at the back here and should progress to the next round so go into our EFL accumulator tip.
Derby County v Liverpool – Liverpool win
Liverpool cruised past Burton in the last round with a very professional display. It was easy for the Merseyside outfit in the end and given Derby’s recent form, Klopp’s side should find this fairly run of the mill. Derby were beaten by Burton in the league and have been woeful in front of their own fans, failing to score a goal here in the league. They have plenty of firepower, so it’s quite surprising that they have been goal-shy. Liverpool beat Chelsea and have had a day longer to recover than their opponents and should be able to make their Premier League class tell here. Nigel Pearson will get it right at the iPro, but it’s going to take times and it’s not going to be a shock in the EFL Cup which triggers the turnaround.

Brighton v Reading – Draw
Reading are proving quite difficult to beat under Jaap Stam. Many people, myself included, fully expected them to be put to the sword by in-form Barnsley, but they remained resolute and ran out 2-1 winners at Oakwell. Not many sides will even emerge with a point from South Yorkshire. They also got a 2-2 draw at the AMEX just a couple of weeks ago and they are tough to see off. They are very effective at the Majeski, but on their travels, solid. They visit the South Coast again here and I think they can at least take this tie into extra time. Both sides might choose to rest players here with another league fixture upcoming at the weekend, but a big draw could await if they progress, so plenty of incentive.
Sevilla v Betis – Sevilla win
Straying into La Liga for this rare set of midweek fixtures as Sevilla host Real Betis to complete our accumulator tip. Betis played on Friday night and they found themselves 2-0 down to a poor Granada side. Only a red card for the away side sparked a comeback for Betis and they managed to secure a point. They need to defend better when they visit Sevilla, who have netted 8 times in 2 home games so far. The Europa League Champions are slowly improving on the road, picking up two draws so far, but at home, they can be a destructive force and it’s a worry for Betis here who also shipped two goals to Valencia and six to Barcelona.
