Euro 2016 Top Goalscorer Accumulator Tip

Republic of Ireland Specials – Shane Long Top Goalscorer

With Robbie Keane not certain to be fit and Daryl Murphy arriving off the back of an inconsistent season, it seems between Shane Long and Jonathon Walters for this honour. Walters is the penalty taker, but Shane Long arrives with plenty of confidence following a wonderful season with Southampton. He’s netted twice in four friendlies during 2016 and scored three times in nine qualifiers including against Poland and Germany. He will get through plenty of work and will hassle defenders all day long and will create opportunities for himself and others. ROI may only score two or three goals when they come up against Belgium and Italy, but Shane Long should be the man to get them.

Italy Specials – Graziano Pelle Top Goalscorer

Sticking with the Saints, Graziano Pelle is almost certain to be first choice striker for Antonio Conte. Italy have a number of strikers they can call upon, but I don’t have enough confidence in Eder or Simone Zaza and I would stick with the former AZ and Feyenoord man. He scored 11 goals this season, but played in patches. He recently scored the winning goal against Scotland in a 1-0 friendly win and scored against England last year. His goals during the qualification period were important and helped propel the Azurri into this competition. He should get the nod to play the lone frontman or start in a front two and as long as injuries permit him to play throughout the competition, he should oblige for our Euro 2016 top goalscorer tip.

Czech Republic Specials – Tomas Necid Top Goalscorer

The Czechs arrive at the tournament in decent form and a recent victory over Russia will have boosted confidence. Tomas Necid scored in that game and I fancy him to find the net during the tournament. It’s a reasonably tough group with games against Spain and Croatia to come. At the top of the market, it’s a contest between Necid and Dockal, the latter hasn’t scored since June 2015 for his national side and I can’t back him. He is falling out of the favour and Necid seems the likely replacement. Standing at 6ft 2, he is also a target man and possess a decent finish. He’s been linked with a move to the Premier League from Buraspor where he netted 11 times this season. He’s scored two in two now and can take that form into the Euros.

Belgium Specials – Romelu Lukaku Top Goalscorer

Romelu Lukaku may be on the move this summer, but that shouldn’t distract him from having a terrific tournament and be top Belgium goalscorer. He may not have scored during qualification, but he has netted four times in the last four games. In friendlies, Belgium have scored six time and he has been responsible for four of them. Benteke has had a poor season and is lacking confident whilst you can’t be as confident about Eden Hazard in front of goal as you would have been 12 months ago. Divock Origi is talented, but may not always start. Although not entirely endearing himself to Everton fans, he netted 18 times in 37 league matches and should flourish under a new manager next season. Belgium are fancied to progress in the tournament and a lot will be dependent on how many he can net.

Austria Specials – Marc Janko Top Goalscorer

Our final selection for this Euro 2016 big odds tip is in Group F as Marc Janko should continue his fine domestic form on the International stage. He’s scored 16 goals in 20 appearances for Basel this season and was a shining light in Austria’s qualification campaign. He hasn’t netted in the recent friendlies, which is not too concerning as they weren’t high scoring matches. Seven goals in nine qualification matches is impressive and provided with assists from Arnautovic and Harnik should give him opportunities to score. Austria are many people’s tips to progress far in the competition and they will need to create plenty of opportunities. They face a creaking Portugal defence and should net against both Iceland and Hungary.
